Walter Scott Jr. was a billionaire businessman and philanthropist, the CEO of Peter Kiewit Sons Inc.

Business and philanthropy

Scott began working for construction firm Peter Kiewit Sons Inc. as an engineer, rising to join the company’s board in 1964 and named executive vice president in 1965. He became chairman and CEO in 1979, a position he held until 1998. As Scott amassed wealth and became a billionaire, he often used his fortune to support charitable endeavors in Omaha, Nebraska, home of Peter Kiewit Sons Inc. He donated large sums to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the Joslin Art Museum, and the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, among others. He pledged the bulk of his fortune to go to his Suzanne & Walter Scott Foundation upon his death.
