I worked pumping gas at 53rd and Ashland nearly fifty years ago. Com. Haberkorn used to stop in and see a friend there, and that is how I met him. I was just a punk kid at the time and yet this police commander had the time to have a serious conversation with me. He impressed me greatly and I have thought of him often though I never saw him again.
I consider myself lucky and privileged to have known him even for so short a time.
He was not only a credit to CPD but a credit to humanity. God bless this fine man.
