Anthony DiBona Obituary

Anthony R. DiBona, Captain, Quincy Police Department, Retired, age 65, of Braintree, formerly of Quincy, died unexpectedly and peacefully, Thursday, December 20, 2018, in the comfort of his home. Tony was born in Quincy to the late Louis G. and Jeanne M. (Salisbury) DiBona. Raised in Braintree, he was a graduate of Braintree High School, Class of 1971, and also graduated from the University of Massachusetts Boston. He later earned two Masters degrees; a Criminal Justice Masters from Anna Maria College and a Masters in Law Enforcement from Northeastern University. He had lived in Braintree the past seventeen years, previously in Quincy for eighteen years. Tony was proudly involved in law enforcement for forty years. He was appointed to the Quincy Police Department on August 31, 1981, promoted to Sergeant on April 17, 1987, Lieutenant on June 3, 1993 and to the rank of Captain on December 22, 2004. He recently retired on September 30, 2018 after thirty-seven years of service in Quincy. He had previously worked as a patrolman with the Braintree Police Department for several years. He was well-respected by his peers and was always a champion for the underdog. Tony loved books, was an avid reader, and had a knack for investments. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing the trumpet, and painting. He was an active fitness enthusiast and runner. In high school, he had excelled on the track team. He was a member of the Quincy Police Superior Officers Association, the Massachusetts Police Association, and the Quincy Lodge of Elks. Most of all, Tonys passion was for his family. He was first devoted to his late parents and his sisters; later, his wife and most especially, to his sons. Kids first, he actively supported all their many activities and accomplishments. Together for sixteen years, Tony was the beloved husband of Audrey Jean (Samara) DiBona. Devoted father of Anthony M. DiBona of Quincy and Christian D. Wybieracki of Braintree. Loving brother of Cheryl A. Authelet and her husband Keith of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Diane M. Lutz and her partner Paul H. Frazier, Chief, Braintree Police Department, Retired of Braintree. Dear uncle of Kayla, Michelle, Jonathan, Sarah, and Jenna. Son-in-law of Janice E. (Ross) Samara of Worcester and the late Randolph G. Samara. Brother-in-law of Sharon Moore, her husband Charles and family of Worcester; Elaine Stratton, her husband Michael and family of Shrewsbury. Lifelong best friend of Paul Dowd, Lieutenant, Braintree Police Department, Retired, his wife Paula and family of Braintree. Tony is also survived by many law enforcement colleagues and friends. Not sure what to say?

August 25, 2019

Tony was our next door neighbor from 1992 until 2018 and to say we were blessed is an understatement. He was a wonderful neighbor offering to help us in so many ways. We loved hearing him play the trumpet from time to time, too. Kind, generous and thoughtful -- we will never forget Tony.

Dear DiBona Family,
My brother and I grew up on Arthur Street in Braintree. My brother Bob was friends with Anthony and the group that included Paul Dowd, David Maloof and Jackie Casey.
Bob and I are so sorry for your loss. Although Bob and Anthony lost touch over the years, he would often talk about his boyhood friends.
Anthony left behind lots of wonderful memories.
Sincere condolences,
Kathy and Bob Houghton(currently of Orlando FL)

Tony Dibona was a class act who had a Unique Way of Picking You Up when You we're down in the dumps. Just found out about Tony in S Bra Square and it floored me. Honest and Solid Human Being. He did not like it when someone put people down. My kind of GUY! Rest In Peace Tony And thanks for being YOU!

To the DiBona Family I want to send my sincerest condolences. I ran into Tony last summer at HNK and had a great conversation with him. He was a great trumpet player when i met him. We were in a 9 piece band together called Meadowbrook. We had a great time touring around New England playing large venues as well. We realized we would be starving musicians with Tony's love law enforcement he followed his dreams. I am really saddened to hear of Tony's passing. and wish the DiBona family our blessings. Rest in Peace Tony
