Jane Grammer Obituary

Jane K. Grammer

AGE: 92 • Shrewsbury

Jane K. Grammer, 92, of Shrewsbury passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Riverview Medical Center.

An only child, she was particularly proud of the large extended family she leaves behind including Chip Grammer and his wife, Bobbie, of Fayetteville, NC and their three children, Shawn, Erik, and Jennie and their families; Barrie Schindler and her husband, Bill, of Shrewsbury and their two children, Bill and Heather and their families; and Red Grammer and his wife, Jan, of Monrovia, CA and their four children, David, Andy, Ailene and Ian, and their families; with a total of 10 great-grandchildren at this count.

Born on June 14, 1920 to hotel manager, Charles S. Krom and his wife, Katherine, Jane grew up in the Essex & Sussex Hotel in Spring Lake in the summer and The Flamingo Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida in the winter. She fondly remembers the many U.S. Presidents and other people of note she met at those fine hotels during those years. She attended The Madeira School, The Erskine School, and Katherine Gibbs School. In 1961 she and her three children moved to Little Silver where she became an active member of Embury United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities, including Superintendent of the Sunday school. She was the owner of The Buffing Wheel, a fine arts and crafts store on Church Street, and later worked at the Monmouth College library, a job she loved as it put her extraordinary mind to excellent good use. In 1970 she moved to Shrewsbury where she lived across the street from her daughter and son-in-law until her passing. Jane was an accomplished painter, jeweler, sculptress, and award-winning photographer, as well as an avid birder. She loved nature, traveling, and getting to know people of all backgrounds and nationalities, passions she enthusiastically passed on to her children. Her family will dearly miss her inquisitive mind, feisty spirit and boundless creativity.

The family will gather with friends on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Embury United Methodist Church, 49 Church Street, Little Silver. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 7:00 p.m.
