I first met Jeanne 27 years ago. Marguerite Williams, Jeanne and me - we were the only women in the group of 40+. I was totally in awe of both of these other women. I still am. The 27 years in between brought many memories of fun and work with Jeanne, sharing our love for and our belief in the concepts surrounding the foundation of our country. I value most the memories of our discussions and conversations. She had a prodigious thought process and understood the network necessary to bring her ideas and concepts to fruition. Most of all I value having been with Jeanne as she worked for her country. God bless her family - and all of us she left behind. She is missed.

Robin,
It was with much sadness I learned of the loss of your Mother, Jeanne, whom I came to love and respect over the years, just as I have you, Robin. You were a treasure that I missed out on a long time ago because of my own immaturity and youth. Both your Mom and Dad, Bob, always showed me much undeserved respect and kindness and I will always treasure both of them forever. Jeanne was such an asset to so many and being a conservative Republican myself, I followed her many labors on behalf of the party. Robin, I commend you on your book & reading foundation in Madison and know that your tireless and unselfish works have been a blessing and helped many a child who might never have had the opportunity of a good education were it not for your efforts. You have been in my thoughts and prayers for many years and I pray that God gives you the comfort and peace you so richly deserve in this time of loss.
Much love and affection for both you and Suzy and hope to see you again some day.

Dear Suzy and Robin, your mother was a big part of my life in Atlanta when I was here, and I want to tell you how much she meant to me, how hospitable she was to my husband and me. She introduced us in the US to the Republican party, to the pro-choice agenda, and I always admired her for her wide ranging and open minded views about the world. I will miss her enormously and will keep thinking about her and the fun time we had together. She is now in the mystery of God and I will pray for her. She was such a giver.
Regretfully, I am leaving early tomorrow for Europe and won't be able to be with you at the memorial service. Know that my thoughts will be with you and your families.

Dear Suzanne and Robin,

You will probably not remember me, but we car-pooled together to the Lovett School as children; and I wanted to offer my condolences to you and to share a brief but still vivid memory of your mother.

When I began to attend Lovett as an anxious 7 year old, a very pretty lady who was driving the carpool greeted me with a smile and a "Hi, I'm Jean Ferst;" and that began a brief but happy association with her (and you) that included invitations to birthday parties and play visits to your home.

I don't remember where your school journey took you after your time at Lovett, but I do remember how nice your mother and father always were to me and my parents, and I have noted with admiration and appreciation their contributions to causes of great value over the years as they gave of themselves in the service of a better world.

I never pass your childhood home on Fairview Road without thinking of her special gift of hospitality.

Our prayerful thoughts are with you as your celebrate her life and bear the sadness of her passing.

Dear Members of the Ferst Family:

On behalf of past, present and future students of the Georgia Institute of Technology, I am writing to express my deepest sympathies regarding the death of your mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Though I have never met Mrs. Ferst in person, I have directly benefitted from her legendary benevolence. Mrs. Ferst possessed a commitment to excellence in the arts and to supporting ground-breaking research initiatives on campus. Without the Robert H. Ferst Center for the Arts and the many innovative cross-school projects that she has supported, members of the GA Tech community would not have had the opportunity to experience such a diverse and impressive array of cultural events so close to home. As an instructor in the School of Literature, Communication and Culture, I utilize the resources of the Ferst Center to teach my students about the relationship between creativity and the skills they will need to excel in their chosen field, whether their careers pertain to engineering, the sciences, management, architecture, or the humanities. Participants in my classes gain first-hand experience interacting with guest artists from the Center and attending a host of stimulating events.

I thank your family for supporting the arts on campus in such a big way. Every student, professor and staff member of GA Tech owes Mrs. Ferst a debt of gratitude for her tireless efforts on our behalf.

I am very sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,

-Kathryn
