Ron Lowry Obituary

Ron "Butch" Lowry, 62, of Buckeye, Arizona passed away peacefully on February 6, 2007 in Goodyear, Arizona. Ron was born July 6, 1944 in Sayre, Ok. He was married to Sue Lowry on August 3, 2005, in Honolulu, HI. Ron is survived by his wife Sue, his son Joey (wife Sheila) of Denver, CO., his brother Larry of Phoenix, AZ., sisters Lou Ann of El Paso, TX., Linda of Tucson, AZ., and his Uncle Grady Walker, of Tulsa, Ok. He was raised in Douglas, AZ. and Roswell, NM. By the age of 14, Ron was an accomplished drummer. At 17, Ron began vocalizing as he sat in with his father's band playing drums. Within a year, his vocal talent began to emerge. Ron was drafted into the Army in 1964. The Army provided a chance for travel and while serving in France and Germany, Ron worked with The Wade Jackson Organization backing various country artists on U.S.O. tours. With the service behind him, he settled in Phoenix, AZ. Ron performed at J.D.'s and then Mr. Lucky's where Ron was offered a recording contract with Gene Autry's Republic Records. Ron's first release, Marry Me, backed by World Champion Fool, became one of Republic's biggest sellers. Within months the record made the national charts and finished out the year 1970 with an ASCAP Award and Ron being placed on the Most Promising Male Vocalist list from Cash Box, Record World, and Billboard. His voice was a natural talent, entertaining all who heard it. Ron will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and many fans who enjoy his music. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd., Chandler, AZ., 85249 (480-895-9232). I was shocked, as everyone else was, to hear of Ron's death. He was a true constant here in the Valley for years and years. I had the pleasure of working with him many times and was always blown away with his singing ability and musicianship. I have so many great memories that I can carry with me always. He always made me smile.

Ron, I love you and you will always be in my mind.

I am so sorry to hear of Ron's passing. Rags Allen informed me that Ron had had a heart attack, however, I wasn't aware of how serious it was. My deepest sympathy to his family and may you find comfort from the Lord, your loved ones and your friends. With Deepest Sympathy....

Ron was a prolific song writer and country music singer from the early days of Country Western Music. He pioneered music with other known top artists in the Valley who have gone on to infamy, yet he remained in the background. His music will live forever in the hearts of all of us. For any of you that have played or jamed with Ron, you know what I mean. He wrote and played from his heart, and God Bless.
