Nancy Halliday Obituary

Halliday, Nancy T. (nee Wolfe) (Stancil)
Nancy, 74, left us after a short battle with ovarian cancer. She was born August 5, 1939 in Nevada City, California. She was the daughter of Charles and Alta Wolfe and was raised by her grandmother, Alma Holter. She attended Nevada City High School and later, worked many years for Montgomery Ward in Placerville and Oakland, California. After her 1968 marriage to Keith, they enjoyed his career opportunities which took them to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Oakland, Ft. Lauderdale twice, London, and Phoenix. Nancy was a talented artist enjoying ceramics, oil painting and reverse glass painting. She took great delight in her extensive collection of Swarovski crystal figurines both small and large. She also had a great love for nature, enjoying all wildlife, particularly those inhabiting the desert near her home such as the bobcats, coyotes, javelinas, bunnies, quail, doves, woodpeckers, collard lizards, and especially hummingbirds. In spite of enduring multiple sclerosis for the last 14 years, which ended her lifelong love of bowling, Nancy was always of good spirit and humor easily making friends wherever she went. In later years, she became an energetic fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team. She is survived by husband Keith, sisters, Alma Neuschwander of Reno, Lanette Simon of Tennessee, brother, Charles T. Wolfe Jr. of Little Rock, step-daughter, Laurie Halliday and family of Oakland, and adopted daughter, Terry Smith and family of Rescue, California.
Service plans are pending. Memorial contributions may be made in Nancy Halliday's name to Southwest Wildlife Rehabilitation & Educational Foundation, 8700 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., PMB 115 , Scottsdale, AZ 85255-3555

I saw Nancy's obituary while scanning today's newspaper. The name "Stancil" is what drew my attention. I knew Nancy in Placerville. I worked at Montgomery Ward after school while in high school. One summer I got to cover Nancy's duties--bookkeeping--while she was on vacation. I remember her as being very sweet and friendly, a truly nice person to be around. I have such pleasant memories of her. I hope that once your initial pain eases, your memories of her will bring comfort to your heart and a smile to your face.
