Sara Wellington Dodge

Dodge, Sara Wellington
passed away peacefully in Scottsdale, Arizona on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the age of 73, from complications the result of Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Bennington, Vermont to Townsend K. Wellington and Barbara M. Wellington and was Vermont's New Year's Baby in 1941. She graduated from the Emma Willard School in Troy, New York and from Briarcliff College in Briarcliff Manor, New York, where she majored in Art, and received the Guggenheim Award for excellence in that subject. Upon graduation, she took a position as an assistant to the Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City where she worked until her marriage to David D. Dodge in 1963, and lived in Cincinnati, Ohio until 1981 when she and her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. She was an accomplished artist and was represented by galleries in Scottsdale, Cincinnati, Nantucket, Palm Beach and Naples, Florida. She spent her life painting, sculpting, playing music on her Steinway piano, singing, and raising her children. Sally, as she was known, was loved by her countless friends for her style, her optimism, her sense of humor, and her endless creative talent in everything she did. She is survived by her three children, David D. Dodge, Jr. of Scottsdale, Arizona; Caroline Q. Dodge of Seattle, Washington; Eliza "Poppy" W. Dodge of Wellington, New Zealand; her brother David S. Wellington of Cincinnati, and four grandchildren. Arrangements for services are pending. The family suggests that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
