Patricia Bassett Obituary
was born May 17, 1948 in Memphis, Tennessee. She entered into eternal peace on Thursday July 10, 2014 due to natural causes. Dr. Bassett graduated from Washington High School Cedar Rapids Iowa, and earned her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. Her dedication to education was demonstrated in 1997 when she founded the Omega Academy Charter School in Phoenix, Arizona. Over her 40 year career in education, Dr. Bassett developed the first African American curriculum for the Cedar Rapids, Iowa School District in 1971. She was formerly Placement Director at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and was once runner up Miss Linn County. She served as the Iowa State Youth Chair Person for the Church of God in Christ and President of YPWW (Young People Willing Workers) as well as National Evangelist. She was the oldest of 8 children and preceded in death by her mother Charlotte Marie Bassett. She is survived by her father Bishop Hurley Bassett Sr., Church of God in Christ Iowa Jurisdictional Prelate. She will be deeply missed by her five brothers Harold Bassett, Pastor Hurley Bassett, New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, Sylvester Bassett, James Bassett, and Roland Bassett, two sisters Lovie Bassett and Dr. Carolyn Rucker. Funeral service will be held on July 26, 2014 at 11:00am at Emmanuel Church of God in Christ, 1537 W. Buckeye Rd, Phoenix Arizona. Viewing from 10am to 11am. A memorial service will be held on Aug 2, 2014 at 11:00am Word of Faith Pentecostal COGIC 2325-16th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids, IA.

There is not a day that gos by I'm not thinking and remembering my beloved mentor teacher ali dear friend aka Dr.Basset I adore her and love her so very much and for as long as I'm alive I'll never stop or forget Everything she's done for me what she's taught me and continues to influence me in life. God bless her kind generous soul in heaven she's a wonderful angel and I owe her much love and respect that will never change. I miss her everyday but I continue to remember everything I know because of her and carry her loving memory in stride and keep her forever in my heart .

There is not a day that has gone by that I'm not thinking and remembering my beloved teacher friend Ali Dr Bassett she believed and had faith in me to become a successful person like herself thanks to that wonderful person friend teacher I graduated 8th and 12th grades from her character school omega academy i miss her so very much and wish I wasn't so late and able to tell her how much she means to me. I have faith that the Lord has Dr Bassett in a special place with him god bless her and her beautiful wonderful spirit.

Wow! I am deeply sadden and shocked to hear of Dr.Basstt's passing. I was looking to give her a call to see how she is doing only to find out that she is gone. I met Dr. Basset back in 1998. My daughter was a student at Omega Academy. Dr. Basset requested that I speak at a parent teachers conference. The conference was held at the Holiday Inn in Phoenix. She requested that I talk about education and the impact of being a teacher. I soon realized that Dr. Bassett was pushing me to use my gifts and talents. Today I am a teacher at the community college and I also teach ESL to a number of international students. When I left Phoenix back in 2007 I continued to keep in touch with Dr. Basset. I have been out of touch for a few years now. She gave me some wonderful advice and told me to always be prayerful. She will be deeply missed.

I remember Dr. Bassett from Southern Illinois university, Carbondale Il. I worked for Dr. Bassett. Dr. Bassett was the FIRST BLACK AFRICAN AMERICAN FEMALE Director of University Career Placement Center. Dr. Bassett was a strong Christian woman as well. Her Cogic Background was strong. We had Prayer every morning before work started. You will be miss. R.I.H Dr. Bassett. Sudonna Lenox and Family Carbondale, Illinois.

We were shocked and saddened to learn of Aunt Pat's death. She was truly remarkable and I am sad my daughter won't grow up knowing her great aunt. Our thoughts are with the entire family. Peace to her memory!

Dr bassett is my idol I am shocked and devastated to hear of her passing I love her sooo much if it weren't for Dr bassett I'd never would of graduated from high school in 2005 she had great hope and thought very well of me she was known as the big mama of omega academy I loved going to her school her school made my dreams come true I was her senior class spokes person 2004-2005 and because I was senior class spokesperson I got to represent Omega academy on the aims testing on channel 12 news on November 2004 Dr bassett was my # 1 cheerleader and my mentor to success and because of that I achieved self confidence. I will always remember and love her much love her student from 1998-1999 and 2004-2005 school years heaven knows I'll miss her forever and I'll keep striving for closure to move forward like she would want me to.

Although Dr. Bassett was no-nonsense when it came to our education, she possessed a juvenescent spirit and her inspiration was immeasurable.
Attending Omega Academy, my senior year armored me with efficacious leadership skills, an unequivocal resolve to stand for what's right and an inextinguishable passion to follow my dreams. With these tools, I was able procure a Presidential Scholarship, begin my freshman year, of college, in the Honor's Program and marry my best friend.
Dr. Bassett realized her dreams and in turn, enabled me to pursue mine. I will forever be grateful.

Dr. Bassett will be greatly missed.
Her memory lives on through the many young lives she touched, serviced and educated.
Without Dr. Bassett, some of them simply wouldn't have made it.
She opened her heart as she open their mind.
Those droplets of love will reverberate through time.
It is hard to say "Good bye," but for now we must.
Take solace that she's in the hands of the God we all trust.

I met Dr. Bassett at Drake University. She was teaching my Finance class in the MBA program and finishing up her Phd. She was always concerned about her students and always made time for us. She was one of my favorite professors at Drake. I graduated in 1994 and have often thought about her and wondered what she was doing. I was very sad to hear that she had passed away at such a young age. Her family and friends have my deepest sympathies.

Dr. Bassett had a big impact on the city of Phoenix Arizona. She founded the omega charter schools and was a highly respected member of Emanuel C.O.G.I.C PHX AZ

We were saddened to hear of the loss. Dr. Bassett was such a great influence on the youth dept. of the COGIC in Iowa. I will never forget her diligent service when I was growing up. I am so sorry to hear about Pat's passing. She was a wonderful friend to me. She encouraged me to pursue my doctorate many years ago when she served as my counselor at Hawkeye Institute of Technology (now, Hawkeye Community College. I am now glad that
she was able to see that I achieved that goal this Spring. I will miss our
