In the providence of God, when I needed a fresh environment and a way to ease a difficult transition in my life the Lord provided Joan Cawley Gallery back in 2002. Joan was an art educator who had a passion for Native American, Hispanic and Southwest Art. She pioneered in the field dating back to 1974 when she first opened the doors of a gallery in Kansas. The galleries spread to Santa Fe and Scottsdale. She held to one of the highest ethical standards in the art industry, and is known as an icon.
It was through her guidance right after the death of my husband that I learned how to run a gallery and could use all the art history background from my past. I will be forever grateful to her.
My deepest condolences to Kevin, Kary and Karin. I respected Joan so very much and her work towards educating the public to gain a greater understanding of the Southwest and to bring art into the homes of ordinary people is something to be admired. Her love of creativity, depth of meaning and appreciation for Native American and Hispanic culture was admirable. She helped surround people with beauty. May she rest in peace.
