Christopher Park Obituary

Park, Christopher Dohyun
Christopher Dohyun Park passed away in Studio City on Friday, May 19, 2017 at age 39. Chris will always be in the hearts of his cherished son Elec, twin daughters AnneLou and Georgie, wife Megan, parents Anne and David of Phoenix, Arizona, brother Daniel Park, his wife Patricia Dao, and niece Riley of Sherman Oaks, California, Uncle James McCarthy and his family of Vancouver, Washington, Uncle Donald McCarthy, Jr. and his family of Granite Shoals, Texas, cousin Deena McRae and her family of Laguna Niguel, California, cousin Grace Shin and her family of Mendham, New Jersey, and his many, many friends. Chris was born in Chicago, Illinois, but raised in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended St. Thomas the Apostle for grade school and then Brophy College Preparatory where he excelled in football and baseball. Chris went to Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. While there, he did an internship with National Geographic and was introduced to the world of editing. After graduation, Chris moved to Los Angeles, where he pursued his career as a movie trailer editor. Starting with Mark Woollen & Associates in 2003, Chris grew his talent over the years as he continued his work at Ignition Creative, Wild Card, and Trailer Park. At the time of his death, he was President of Theatrical at Project X/AV in Burbank, which he had grown from five to forty employees in just fourteen months. The movie trailers that Chris created include The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, Iron Man 3, The Great Gatsby, and American Sniper. During his career as an editor, Chris received numerous Golden Trailer and Key Art Awards as one of the top editors in the film industry. His talent and charismatic personality generated respect from all of his colleagues. At the same time, Chris was always eager to share his knowledge by mentoring younger editors. His passion for his business was combined with a compassion for others that was endless. And all was done with sincerity and a sense of intensity that no one will forget. Growing up, Chris and his family spent their summers on Coronado, a tradition that he and Megan continued with their own family. He treasured each moment with Elec, AnneLou, and Georgie, for whom he would have done anything and everything. With all of his blockbuster movie trailers and the love that Chris shared with others, it is hard to imagine that there is anyone whose life is untouched by his goodness - whether someone watching one of his trailers in a movie theatre or someone who had the fortune of knowing Chris personally. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle, 4510 N. 24th Street, Phoenix, Arizona. In honor of Chris, a memorial fund has been set up for the benefit of his children at www.youcaring.com/ChrisPark.

Chris was my friend, my inspiration, my business partner and a crestive force that dominated an industry. In a recent awards ceremony in Los Angeles, the mere mention of his name brought a noisy theater to dead silence. In a town of fierce competition, rivalry and even jealousy...he commanded the respect and reverence of all who knew him. His work will live forever as a standard few will achieve and his sudden departure has brought friends, colleagues and rivals together like nothing before him. His gifts were great but his spirit, love of craft and respect for others was even
greater. I love you, partner. I miss you every day and wonder how I can ever achieve alone what we did together. You were the hero we all dreamed of becoming and the best of us all. You were the spark. You left a mark that will never fade.
