Marion Hiett Obituary

Marion Hiett

1938 - 2015 On November 30, 2015, Marion G. Hiett, formerly of Dalton, passed away in Marblehead, MA, surrounded by her loving family. Marion was born on September 21, 1938 in Hartz Point, Nova Scotia, Canada to Cecil and Sylvia Gregory. Marion met the love of her life, William (Stretch) Hiett while he was in the US Navy stationed at Shelburne, Nova Scotia. They married on June 20, 1956 and the following year he discharged from the Navy and they moved to his home in Altamont, TN. They lived in Tuscaloosa, AL while William attended the University of Alabama, and upon graduation he was employed with GE and for many years they lived in several states including Massachusetts, Florida, South Carolina and Hawaii before ultimately settling in The Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. In her youth, Marion loved dancing, sewing, playing bridge and hosting parties for their friends. Marion and William were active members of The First Baptist Church in Pittsfield where she was a Deaconess and taught Sunday School. Marion's life was impacted in 1975 by a diagnosis of MS, and for the next 40 years, this disease took its toll, ultimately leading to her passing. Since her husband's passing, Marion had resided at Lafayette Rehabilitation in Marblehead, where she received outstanding care from devoted and compassionate staff. Marion expressed how grateful she was that her son, Tim, and his family (Margarita and Marie) visited daily and she actually felt "at home" in her new surroundings. Marion is survived by her children: Bonny (Robert) Snyder of Gig Harbor, WA; W. Patrick (Young) Hiett of San Antonio, TX; Timothy (Margarita) Hiett of Marblehead, MA; and four beautiful grandchildren; Patricia, William, Gregory and Marie and numerous nieces and nephews. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Willliam, to whom she had been married for 57 years, her mother and father, and her beloved sister, Velma. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral will be held in Altamont, TN on Saturday, December 5th with internment at the Coalmont Cemetery beside her husband. In lieu of flowers please make donations in her name to: Lafayette Rehabilitation Facility - Employee Fund, 25 Lafayette Street, Marblehead, MA 01945.

Tim, Bonnie, and Patrick...I am so sorry to hear about your Mother. I remember her as being sweet, along with all the other memories I have of living on Judith Dr. I'd like to think our moms are meeting up again somewhere up there.

I'm so sorry to hear your mother passed. While I remember your Dad as being tall, I remember your mother as the Mom who made shrimp dip. That was the best dip! I hope her passing fills you all with a sense of peace, even in your sadness. Marilyn Whisler
