Ruth Kocsis

Ruth Kocsis, age 96 of Tryon and formerly of Hendersonville, died Sunday, October 21, 2018 at White Oak of Tryon following a period of declining health.
Born in Fords, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Hans Miller and Lilly Andersen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William J. Kocsis and her sister, Gladys Toth. She was a prior resident of Fords, NJ and Ogunquit, ME, retiring to Henderson County in 1984, and finally residing in Tryon, NC for the last four years.
She was a graduate of Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, NJ and served as secretary of Our Redeemer Lutheran Evangelical Church in Fords, NJ from 1956-1971. She and her husband owned and operated Hobbit House craft shop in Ogunquit, ME for 12 years. While residing in Hendersonville, NC she volunteered at Habitat for Humanity's resale store at its beginning in 1990 and for the next 12 years. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Tryon, NC, singing in the choir and serving several years as president of the LWML women's group. She enjoyed many years "watercising" at the local YMCA and walking at Connemara.
She is survived by her son, Robert and his wife, Patricia of Glendora, CA and her daughter, Christine Kersten of Hendersonville. She was blessed with three grandsons, David Kocsis and wife, Tracy of Lawrenceville, NJ, Jonathan Kocsis and wife, Nicole of Portland, OR and Devon Kersten and wife, Carla of Richmond, VA. Her five great-grandchildren are Brennan, Will, Bennett, Sam and Maggie. She cherished her many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church officiated by Pastor Thomas L. Olson.
