ANNE GALLAGHER

GALLAGHER, Anne (Halloran) 89, of N. Falmouth and Norwell, passed away on March 30, 2017, at home in the company of her family. Daughter of J. Frank and Anna P. Halloran, she lived in S. Weymouth for most of her life and summered in Megansett (N. Falmouth) where she was a life-long member of the Megansett Yacht Club. Anne was a graduate of Thayer Academy and Lesley College. She began her professional career as a 5th grade teacher in the Donald Ross School, Braintree. Although Anne was widowed in her early 50's she had great zest for life, was fun loving, and full of spirit. She raised her two boys, Jay and Paul, served as their Cub Scout leader, taught CCD, and was a terrific role model to her sons and their many friends. A brave woman, Anne secured her Real Estate sales license in her 60's in order to help her two sons in their home building business. Her true passion was landscape design and she designed the exteriors of many of the homes of J.P. Gallagher Construction for over a decade. Anne was often seen carrying large plants and shrubbery despite her slight size. Anne was educated at Harvard School of Design, Landscape Design program. She belonged to the Weymouth and Osterville Garden Clubs. She was a Master Designer in the Garden Club Federation. Her passion for flowers and landscapes was so keen that last weekend she attended The Boston Flower & Garden Show with her son, Paul and grandson, Jack! Anne was the oldest participant of her many activities including: Thayer Academy reunions, Norwell Council on Aging Art classes, Hanover Senior Center Bridge program, and served as mascot of the annual 4th of July parade in Megansett (N. Falmouth). Mrs. Gallagher was a former member of Neighborhood Club of Quincy and Oyster Harbors. Her husband Jack (John J. Jr.) predeceased her in 1981. He was a Realtor and entrepreneur whose skills were passed on to their boys. Anne is survived by her boys, Jay and Paul of Norwell; Jay's children: Johnny and his wife Stephanie (Ekstrom), Andrew and his girlfriend Aliza Ritsko; Paul and his wife Kathy (Keating), their children: Mary Kate and Jack Gallagher. Matriarch of the Halloran clan, Anne was the last of its surviving members. Her siblings included Richard, Jim and Kay (formerly of Braintree), Franny Crowley, (formerly of Worcester), and Patricia Murray, (formerly of Butte, MT.) Mrs. Gallagher was also the sister-in-law of Andrea Cain of Centerville. Anne will be lovingly missed by her many friends and family members, including her beloved Shetland sheep dog, Jake the 6th. The family wishes to recognize the kind and gentle ways of her caretaker, Sandy Crawford. They are also grateful to the Norwell VNA (NVNA) and Hospice for the attention of its team.
