Randy Van Hierden Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald on Nov. 8, 2004.
VAN HIERDEN _ Randy Grant Randy Grant Van Hierden, beloved son of Conrad and Rhonda Van Hierden of Fort Macleod, passed away at the Calgary Foothills Hospital on Friday, November 5, 2004 at the age of 20 years. Randy was born March 2, 1984 in Lethbridge, Alberta. He loved living on the farm, feeding calves and teaching his beautiful Golden Retrievers to obey and listen to him. Randy had a great love for all the A-T Children and their families that he had met. He never let Ataxia Telangiectasia change how he looked at life and by the grace of the Lord he could show his love to so many, by his smile or his sincere love for life, especially to his siblings and dear friends: Daniel, Ben, Willyanne, Mary Joan and Aunt Alice and Uncle Bill. Randy always had an encouraging comment, smile or would say "I know that already", or he would give you a thumbs up if he agreed with you or when you were leaving. He loved being read to, as A-T would not always allow him to read himself, taking his friends on quad rides or just listening to their stories. With the help of Mary Joan he learned every psalter and Bible text for school and if he was not able to go to school, she came to the farm, where he found ways to tour her around. The last years, Randy liked the trips he went on with his family or being out in the fields when we were harvesting. He missed his dear sister Rebecca and was comforted when his breath would no longer come, that she would be waiting for him, this only by the Grace of the Lord. Randy is survived by his parents, Conrad and Rhonda Van Hierden (Van Rootselaar); his siblings, Katie, Jennifer and David; his grandparents, Bert and Effie Van Rootselaar; his Oma Jans Van Hierden; Uncle Bill and Aunt Rita Van Rootselaar and family; Aunt Alice and Uncle Marty Van Driesten and family; Aunt Steina and Uncle Frans Feyter and family; Uncle Gerrit and Aunt Janet Van Hierden and family; Aunt Ria and Uncle Ray Vanee and family; Aunt Nancy and Uncle Walter van den Broek and family; Uncle Henry and Aunt Shannon Van Hierden and family; Uncle Harvey and Aunt Bernita Van Hierden and family; Aunt Tracey and Neil Websdale and family and Aunt Jenny and Uncle Jake Boot and family. Randy was predeceased by his Opa Henk Van Hierden; his Uncle Rick Van Hierden; his cousin Gerrit Van Hierden; and by his sister Rebecca Van Hierden. The Funeral Service will be held at the Netherlands Reformed Church, Fort Macleod, on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. P. Bazen officiating.
