David Bachini Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 29, 2007.
SOUTH YARMOUTH — David C. Bachini, 95, died Oct. 27, 2007, at his home.

He was born in Boston, son of the late Dante and Theresa (Castello) Bachini. He was the husband of the late Mary L. (Driscoll) Bachini for 59 years. Mr. Bachini was raised in East Boston and Winthrop, graduating from Charlestown High School in 1929. He served in the Army during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.

After the war, while living in Winthrop, he was a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. At that time he worked for the Campbell Soup Co. as a salesman. After a couple of years, he left the company and went to work for Akers Motor Lines. He worked there for 25 years, retiring in 1977 as vice president of sales. He started with the company in Boston, later worked in Providence, then went to New York City, where he spent 17 years. The family lived in Westport, Conn., during that time. He loved working in New York and often told stories of his time there.

When Mr. Bachini retired, he and his wife moved to Dennisport for one year and then built a house in South Yarmouth, where they lived for 28 years. He soon became president of his neighborhood Captain's Village Association. Golf was his major passion in retirement, and he enjoyed the wonderful friends he made at the town golf courses. He played the courses until he was 91 years old.

Mr. Bachini was also the president of the Friends of the South Yarmouth Library for many years. During that time he organized a wonderful monthly lecture series with speakers he discovered all throughout the Cape. He found authors, experts in antiques, oceanography and many other topics who were willing to donate their time to speak at the library. Mr. Bachini and his late wife also delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels program for many years. He was communicant of St. Pius X Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Ann Aghababian and her husband, Richard, of Southborough, and Regina Bachini of Arlington; one son, David Bachini of Hyannis; two grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Aghababian of Southborough; one brother, Richard of Chelmsford; and many nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Marie McIntyre, and Enrico, Leo, Joseph and Charles Bachini.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at 8:30 a.m. from the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth. Burial will follow in Chandler Gray Cemetery, West Yarmouth. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the South Yarmouth Library Association, 312 Old Main St., South Yarmouth, MA 02664.

We are saddened to read of Dave's passing. He will be missed in the Captain's Village where he'd take his daily walks around the block chatting with neighbors along the way.
Our sincerest condolences to all.
