Jeremiah O'Connor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 12, 2010.
BRONXVILLE — Jeremiah William O'Connor III, 34, died suddenly on Sept. 9, 2010.

He was the beloved husband of Karina Lagos O'Connor, devoted father of Emiliano and Sophia Marie, and the adored son of Jerry and Joan O'Connor of Bronxville, N.Y. Jerry is also survived by a wide circle of family and friends, including five beloved siblings: Bill (and Eileen) O'Connor of ye, N.Y., Chris (and M.E.) O'Connor of New Canaan, Conn., Marjorie (O'Connor) and Nat Furman of New Canaan, Conn., Catherine (O'Connor) and Matt Williams of New York, N.Y., and John O'Connor of New York, N.Y.; and 13 nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Jerry.

Jerry was to serve as best man at his brother John's wedding to Erin Dougherty of Middleburgh, Va., on Dec. 4, 2010.

Jerry was a graduate of Bronxville High School, Harvard College and Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He worked at O'Connor Capital Partners, a real estate investment company in New York City.

Growing up, Jerry spent summers with his family in Harwich Port, where he sailed at Stone Horse Yacht Club. In recent years Jerry sailed, along with his brothers, in the Scudder Cup out of the Wianno Yacht Club in Osterville. Jerry loved being on the water and the challenge of the wind on the waves. Jerry was a brilliant person, a voracious reader and a larger-than-life personality. He was devoted to his friends and family. He had a smile, a laugh and a twinkle in his eye that will forever brighten the lives of all who knew him.

A wake will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Fred McGrath and Sons Funeral Home, 914-337-6770. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at St. Joseph's Church, Bronxville, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Catholic Relief Services, 917-587-5726.

I feel so blessed to have known Jerry while we both lived in San Francisco. He was so smart and witty, but what I will remember most was his kindness and generosity to his friends. The world has lost a wonderful human being and I send my deepest condolences to Jerry's family. I can only imagine the devoted husband and father he became.

I knew Jerry from our time playing rugby together in Mexico. He was a great guy and a great player......DYNO-MITE in fact. They say that God recalls his best works early so not to make the rest look so bad. Unfortunately that was the case with Jerry. I am sure that he will be sorely missed by all who met him...even briefly.
Deepest sympathy to his family especially Karina and the kids.
I think the sun is shining just a little dimmer the last few days...gone but never forgotten

Every year there are a few Tuck graduates who make a lasting impact on me: Jerry was one of those guys. He never failed to provide an honest opinion (usually peppered with a touch of great humor and insight) and he just loved to talk real estate. I grieve for his family.

Dear Joan, Jerry, Karina,

There are no words to describe what you must feel and go through right now. I will therefore just say this: Jerry touched our lives and our soul through his incredible personnality, his always-on smile, and most of all his devotion to Tuck.
While Jerry and I were not close friends, I will always remember Jerry as an incredibly sweet classmate, a great fellow Tuckie, and most of all an outstanding person.

All my prayers are with you.

September 10, 2010

I love you, Jerry. You were a wonderful human being and I feel lucky that our paths crossed. You will be missed. RIP.

September 10, 2010

Dear Joan and Jerry,

I am so grieved at the notice I just read in my Mexican newspaper, Reforma, of young Jerry´s death.

When my family lived in Bronxville from 1985 to 1990, I remember Jerry and Catherine walking Cody in front of my house on Elm Rock.

He was a wonderful boy then and I am sure you were proud of him as a man, father and loving son.

Our prayers go to you both. May the Holy Spirit guide you and give you strength in this difficult moment.
