James Dennis Ball lost his battle with cancer on February 23, 2020, at his home in Port St. Lucie, FL, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 68. James (Jim) was born on June 5, 1951 in Washington, DC to Mary Frances Ball and Charles (Ollie) Ball, who have preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Caroline Ball, nee Newcomb; his brother, Charles (Chuck) Ball of Millsboro, DE; two children, Spencer Ball, of Avon, CO, Caroline Hurt, nee Ball of Leesburg, VA; four grandchildren; two stepchildren, Kevin Wright and Katie Tasch, nee Wright; and two step-grandchildren. Jim's passions were his family, boating, fishing, camping, and his beloved pets that he had over the years. Jim's career of 20+ years was with the Charles E. Smith Company in Washington, DC as a Building Engineer. Afterwards, Jim worked as a contractor for the US Naval Academy until his retirement in 2015. While living in Annapolis, Jim was an active member of the Eastport Yacht Club until his move to Florida in 2015. Services will be held Saturday, March 14th at 10:30 AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, Stuart, FL 34997.

Working and being a friend of Jim´s through work was a blessing. In conversations we found ourselves aligned with similar philosophies. How fortunate I was that our lives crossed. I had the deepest respect for this man with high moral standards and ethics.
Blessings to Jim´s family and friends as we are better for our association with him.

I have just received word of Jims passing. At first Jim was a contractor who did exceptional work for the Naval Academy Athletic Association. Truly a man who gave straight forward honest advice. He quickly became a friend.
We were very fortunate to work with Jim. He made life on earth a better place!
Our deepest sympathy and condolences to Jims family.

My deepest condolences to Jims family. I am so shocked and heartbroken to hear about Jims passing. One of my closest friends during my Junior High and High School years, Jim was one of the nicest guys I knew. We connected again as young parents, getting together with our kids and spouses... and while not in touch in recent years, we still saw each other at school reunions. I was so looking forward to seeing him at our upcoming 50th. You will be greatly missed Jim. RIP.

I am sadden to learn of the passing of Jim. He and I were teammates on the Northwood HS football team; Jim the center and I was the QB. Jim always had a great work ethic, and was a kind, fun loving teammate. May he rest in peace.
