Phil Skell and I have been friends, colleagues and ski-companions for five decades. I had the privilege of knowing both his wives and three of his children.

Phil was a fine chemist, a real intellectual and truly the "Renaissance Man". I am sure that everyone who knew him will miss him, as I know I will!

Phil was my graduate advisor in 56-61. We had many interesting and ALWAYS stimulating discussion then and in the decades since. He and Margo were gracious hosts to his students and I spent many wonderful afternoons with them and the kids. My sympathies to all who loved and respected him-personally and professionally.

My Sympathies to the Skell family~
I was Dr. Skell’s staff assistant when he worked in the Chemistry Department at PSU. He was a delight to work for. I have many memories of hm. He was a true inspiration, he told it like it was – didn’t hide any thoughts. He will be greatly missed.

I was sad to read of the death of a good friend, Professor Phil Skell. I want to extend my deepest sympathy to his family, and to tell them of my high regard for Phil who was intellectually honest to the core, a scientist who understood that the reputation of his profession was dependent upon an unbiased search for the truth in a world where truth is often the first casualty. In that regard, I have no doubt that Phil commanded the respect of his colleagues and friends.

I was privileged to have a correspondence with Phil over the years and will always remember that his intellectual curiosity in regard to the aforementioned search for the truth was unwavering, which got my attention in short order.

The Phil Skell that I knew in his later years did not shirk from telling it like it is in setting the record straight when he saw the science that he loved go astray.

God bless you, Professor, as you came to see the ultimate Truth with a capital “T”, Who is a Someone, not a something, where all such searches finally lead! Special thanks for sharing that journey with me on occasion.
