Charles Douglas Snyder
'Chuck'
Mr. Snyder, 61, of Charlotte, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2003 in his home following an extended illness.
Born June 8, 1942 in Dewitt, AR, he was a son of the late Charlie Snyder and Helen Rebecca Hearn Montgomery. After graduation from high school, Chuck joined the U.S. Navy where he served for nine years. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and served as Chief Petty Officer on the USS Enterprise.
After leaving the service, he moved to Glen Falls, NY where he resided for 25 years. In 1995, he moved to Charlotte, NC and retired after 30 years of service with the Valmet/Sandy Hill Corp. He was an import/export specialist. Chuck served five years as a Board member of his Homeowner's Association. He loved golfing, reading, fishing and camping.
In addition to Karen Snyder of Charlotte, his wife of 21 years, he is survived by his children, Kris Richard and her husband, Mar, Stan Schock, Jr. and his wife, Kim, all of Lynchburg, and Robyn Chapman and her husband, Jon, of Gordonsville; a brother, Roy 'Butch' Snyder and his wife, Vicki, of Coco, FL; and eight grandchildren, Kevin, Lauren and Tyler Richard, Sierra Smith, Spencer Schock, Megan and Jeremy Lookabaugh, and Nathaniel Chapman, to whom he was lovingly known as 'Babau'. Chuck was loved dearly and will be sorely missed.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 Monday, December 8, t Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Reverend Ed Gomes officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Virginia Memorial Park, Bedford County.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA, and at other times at the home of Mark and Kris Richard, 1009 Chowan Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital, PO Box 31276, Charlotte, NC 28233.
The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff of Presbyterian Hospital (ICU and 3A) the Hospice of Presbyterian Hospital and especially to Dr. Geoffrey Chapman and Dr. Stuart Garner for their wonderful care.
