Ashley Mankin Obituary

Ashley N. Mankin, age 30, of Grand Rapids, MI and formerly of Cheboygan, MI passed away Friday, November 9, 2018 from a pulmonary embolism.  She was born May 11, 1988 in Cheboygan, the daughter of Chris and Stephanie (Brickley) Mankin. Ashley married David Seymour on September 13, 2014 in Cheboygan.
Following graduation from Cheboygan High School in 2006 she attended Alma College and completed a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 2010.  For the last six and a half years Ashley worked at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, most recently as Operations Specialist, a job she loved.
Ashley is fondly remembered for her wit and creativity. She was an avid reader, loved watching Jeopardy and crocheting dolls (one of which has appeared on TV and now sits in the chambers of Ashley's heroine, Ruth Bader Ginsburg).  She valued spending time with family, whether at hunting camp in Ocqueoc, searching for morel mushrooms or simply being together with her two brothers, Derek and Shawn.
Ever a fierce competitor, Ashley excelled at basketball, softball and volleyball in high school and continued to play softball in college and most recently with co-workers on an intramural softball team, "Club Fed."  Ashley was the life of every party and a lover of live music, especially Zac Brown Band and Garth Brooks.  Her life continues on as an organ donor.
Ashley is survived by her husband David, her parents, her two brothers, Shawn and Derek, grandparents, Jim and Jennie Brickley, aunts and uncles, Kim Mankin, Michael (Kim) Mankin, Shawn (Mary) Mankin, Jan (Terry) Franz, Kara (Ben) McQueen, Priscilla (Oscar) Brickley, Tiffany Brickley and Christine Mankin, cousins, Michael, Tony, Heidi, Russell, Eddie, Katie, Briana, Caitlyn, Danielle, Zac, Anthony, Arianna, and Gabi , her mother and father-in law, Michael and Marguerite Seymour, two brothers-in-law, Jeff (Katie) Seymour and Joe (Sarah) Seymour, sister-in-law, Lauren (Adolfo) Escobar, many second cousins, great aunts and uncles, friends, and her chocolate lab Gus. She was preceded in death by her uncle, Kirk Mankin and her grandparents, Michael and Mary Mankin and JoAnne Kendrick.
Visitation will take place at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home in Cheboygan on Thursday, November 15 from 5-8 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church on Friday, November 16 at 10 a.m. with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. Reverend Duane Wachowiak will officiate, and burial will take place within Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Lord's Kitchen (221 North Bailey St., Cheboygan, MI 49721) or the Cheboygan County Humane Society (1536 East Hackleburg Rd., Cheboygan, MI 49721).
