My condolence to the family. I knew 1st sgt murphy when I was assigned to the 147th @ Barbers pt. I was the crew chief on the UH-1H huey. I was in a car accident on the way home and was separated from the Army. I was in contact with him in 2017 when he working at ft stewart Georgia. He was a great 1st sgt.

One of three men most influential in my life. 1SG Murphy (graduate of the 7th Army NCO Academy, Bad Tolz, West Germany) was that to so many more of his soldiers, the result of being one of the top 10 enlisted leaders in the U.S. Army. He cared for every one of his soldiers, and ruled with a "gloved" iron fist, but NOBODY messed with his troops without dealing with him.
