"Bill Herren had some trucks he hauled
anything from bulls to ducks"

Bill was born on Nov. 19th, 1934 in Chehalis to George and Mae (Newbury) Herren.Raised on a working farm in Toledo, Bill learned to work at a young age. His responsibilities as a youngster included cleaning the horse tie stalls, milking goats, bringing the cows in for milking and later milking cows on the family dairy.
He attended Toledo schools and was an active member of the FFA. As a high school junior he achieved the State Farmer award and as a senior was chosen as 1 of 4 to win a state- wide Guernsey cattle club competition. This award entitled him to a four- day trip visiting and studying herd management on the top farms in the state. A highlight for Bill was traveling by train to attend the National FFA Convention in Kansas City. After graduating from Toledo High School in 1953 he continued his studies at Centralia and Lower Columbia colleges.
Bill married Patricia Stedham in 1955 and together they raised 5 children. Their children include: Kimberly (Mark) Bolender, Silver Creek, Mark (Debbie) Toledo, Krista (Mike) Anderson, Ridgefield, Michael (Carl Pugliese), Seattle, and Jamie (Angie), Anchorage. Their marriage later ended in divorce.
Bill married Karla Iskra in 1984. Karla brought with her 4 more children to the family. Her children include: John (Susan), Aberdeen, Craig, Bellevue, Gary, Humptulips, Tamy Rissmann (Gary), Humptulips.
Known to all as a hard worker, Bill began his career for Standard Dairy and Darigold. Eventually retiring in 1996 after driving truck for Associated Grocers for 37 years. While employed by Associated Grocers he was a recipient of the million mile safe driving award. In addition to his day job he also hauled livestock for many years locally and out of state along with his companion herd dog Freckles.
Bill was an avid supporter of the Lewis County FFA and 4-H Clubs. He hauled many of their animals to fairs both in and out of state. He enjoyed attending the market sale at the SWW Fair and generously hauled these animals to the local sale barn free of charge.
Bill had a strong faith in God and was active in the First Christian Church of Chehalis for 63 years. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and taught Senior High age Sunday School class for many years. He also served in capacities as both elder and a deacon. In recent years Bill was faithful to deliver communion to shut-ins every Sunday he was able.
In Addition to his wife and children, Bill is also survived by his brother Ben (Linda), Woodland, 3 sisters, Faye (Don) Wirsdorfer, Texas, Sue
Lincoln,Battleground, and Anna (Jim) Kion, Richland. 22 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, aunts, Polly Sabin, Jo Oglesby, Hazel Widell and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held at the Chehalis First Christian Church on Thurs., Jan. 27 at 11 A.M. The family requests any remembrances be made to the First Christian Church building fund.

What a great man Bill was. When I was in FFA he'd haul me and my boney Gurnsey milk cow up to Puyallup Fair, drop us off and haul 4-H kids home. I also got to put hay in for him a couple of times. I'll never forget the time when the load came tumbling down onto the roof of the (then) new Chevy pick-up. That's about the only time I don't remember him smiling. Anybody who ever knew him should consider themselves fortunate, he will be missed by many.

Every time I saw Bill he always had such a pleasant smile on his face. He was a joy to work with at the Jr Livestock Market Sale. Wish there were more people like him. He will be missed.

To Bills wife, children, Ben, Faye, Sue and Anna,

have known Bill since 1947 when we moved onto a farm on what is now Spencer Road. Bill, his dad and brother, Ben, were the first neighbors we got to know. Our hay was ready to be cut and without us asking, they brought their equipment and along with my dad and brothers put up the hay within two days. Bill will always be remembered by me as not only a friend, but a quiet, caring and honorable man. I'm sure his greatest rewards will be found in Heaven.
