David Lipka Obituary
Born in Nanticoke, David was the son of the late Stephen and Joan Yanchik Lipka. He was a graduate of Northwest High School, King's College, and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Temple University.
Attorney Lipka was extremely proud to be the first certified National Elder Law attorney in Luzerne County. He founded an independent law firm in Plymouth, where he practiced for many years before moving his office to Kingston. David was dedicated to fairness and justice and exemplified that in his work as well as in his personal life. He was a recipient of the Martindale-Hubbell Client Distinction Award based on client review ratings. Throughout the years, he served as solicitor for various local townships.
A charter member and former president of the Lake Silkworth Lions Club, David also received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services for the Lions Club International Foundation.
David was a cherished husband, father, brother and friend. He was a huge Phillies fan.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his first wife, Mary Ann Kuni.
Surviving are his wife, the former Wendy Cohee; son, John Lipka and wife, Violet, Nanticoke; stepdaughters, Kirsten Weary and husband, Kris, and Ashley Nole; brother, Dr. Stephen M. Lipka and Sharon, Lexington, Ky.; sisters, Diane McCabe and husband, Ed, Shavertown; and Janet Weiss and husband, James, Shickshinny; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday from Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. The Rev. James J. Paisley, pastor of St. Therese's Church, will officiate.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
A special thank you is extended to the very loyal family and friends who assisted during Dave's ordeal.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 712 Keyser Ave., Taylor, PA 18517.

I knew Attorney Lipka only as a client. He helped both my parents and me tremendously. When my mother went to a nursing home, he helped me retain the family home,and aided me in dealing with the complexities of Medical Assistance. I am forever grateful for his help in my time of need. How terribly sad! He was such a nice man; David was recommended to us, when my family needed a lawyer. He was very kind and compassionate to my parents and I.
I used him at my mortgage closing, and later for my divorce. He really went out of his way for us, WAY out of his way! He was definitely one of the good ones. Wonderful man. Sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He was a loyal friend. We shared many lunches back in the 1990s discussing the challenges of law practice. He was always willing to help with his expertise. I specifically recall how he helped my father-in-law when he sold his home in Florida and moved here to Pennsylvania.
