I worked for Mcrae's in the mid eighties in the maintenance garage. So, I got to meet many of his family members and company staff.

I was just sitting here and thinking about the spirit of a wonderful man that I'm grateful to have met. I was a caregiver of Mr. MCRAE. He would always tell me that I was invited to his funeral. That meant so much to me. That has rubbed off on me. When wonderful people cross my path; I give them an invite to my funeral. My God continue to be with his family and keep them in the Spirit of this wonderful person. The Spirit of "LOVE"..God bless.

We all will miss Richard. Just like you said Vaughn, he was an exceptional man of wonderful character and a large heart for all. I was privileged to know him through my mother, Jean Brewer and how lucky I was.

Richard and Vaughn,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. It was a pleasure and an honor to know and do business with Richard beginning in the 1960's. I was very fortunate to have been born and raised in the Jackson area and know all of the great business and political leaders such as Richard McRae, Sr. Your dad and many his age were about the same age as my dad and at that time it seemed that everyone was acquainted. One day we were attending a meeting and the subject of travel agency came up and he said that he may want to sell McRae Travel at some time. I told him to let me know and we would get together. A couple years later, Richard called and his first words were, "Roger, I'm ready". That's how McGehee and McRae Travel came together.
I will really miss seeing Richard around town.
The best to y'all and your family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you the family as you grieve the loss of your father and grandfather. Age and distance does not allow us to be there. There are many warm memories that have come to mind from over the years. Richard was not just a cousin to us, he was a friend as well. Sounds as though he was blessed in his latter years with lots of family. And, that is what life is truly about. Love to you all.

In actual time spent together, our acquaintance with Richard McRae was brief - a lovely meal, an engagement party, and a shared wedding weekend with he and his family. Yet, getting to know that family has endeared him to us. A kind and loving family man, father, grandfather, friend and a successful businessman, Richard McRae was beloved by those who knew him; there is no higher praise.
We hope that his family and friends may have comfort in his legacy, which persists in his loving, talented, and generous family and his lifetime of service to his community - which will continue to bear good fruit in the years to come.
In sincere sympathy,
Kay Whittle and Jay Graepel

Richard McRae drove a 4-in-hand along with other driving friends Brother Cook and J.W. Fielder and Robert Stockett Sr. On one of their many drives, I was accompanying Richard along with my sister Barbara Stockett. As I also drove a 4-in-hand, Mr. McRae asked if I wanted to drive his "4". I said of course. So he gave me the reins. One of the wheelers (horses closest to the carriage) had stopped with his butt out to the side, so I touched his butt with the whip and asked him to "move your butt over". Upon which Mr. McRae sputtered and said, "oh, I'm sorry I'm crowding you" and moved over. My sister Barbara Stockett cracked up laughing so hard and Mr. McRae was apologizing right and left for "crowding" me, and I was sputtering and apologizing saying that I was talking to the horse to move his butt over, not to Mr. McRae. He laughed and said, it's ok and from now on, enough of this Mr. McRae, . . . it's Richard to you, Mary Ruth. A fun moment with a dear man that has stayed with me for years. Every time I have a horse that stops with his butt out to the side, I think of Richard McRae and the wonderful day we had driving. They welcomed me at their breakfast meetings at the Ramada and let me come and have a meal with them as the only woman. A treat for me. Richard lives on in my memory via my horses and his love for the sport of driving. RIP Richard, and "move your butt over" just one last time. Love you, Mary Ruth (Burke) Marks in Verona, WI but my heart is always in Mississippi.
