Norman Germany Obituary

Norman Garvin Germany, age 85, to some he was Bowser. To others he was Pappy. To all, he was loved. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away Thursday, September 21, 2006 in Dallas, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, at 10:30 AM at the Highland Park United Methodist Church.

Born July 10, 1921, to E. B. (Gene) Germany and Maggie Wilson Germany in Grand Saline, Texas, Norman Germany was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wilson Germany and his grandson David Callan.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie Forrest Germany, daughters Jean Germany Bentley, Susie Germany, Patty Germany of Dallas and son, Forrest Germany and wife Debbie of Jackson, MS. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Amye Tatum Johnson and husband Jeff of Portland, Ore., Ben Callan and wife Kelley of Santa Fe, N. M., Laurie Callan Mitchell and husband Johnny of Dallas, Gary Fulkerson and wife Lisa of Bend, Ore., Maggie Fulkerson Pieper of San Antonio, Texas, Paige Germany of Dallas, Jennifer Germany Croswell and husband Bobby of Jackson Hole, Wyo., Benjamin Germany of Dallas, Michael Germany of Jackson, Miss. and 6 great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Highland Park High School and Southern Methodist University. After serving in the Army Air Corps, he joined his father in the oil and gas exploration and production business, actively engaged in the exploration for oil and gas in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. He served as President and Chairman of Germany Exploration Company, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy Drilling Company (Natchez, MS) and was most active in the restoration of the Eola Hotel and other historic buildings in Downtown Natchez, Mississippi. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors for Preston State Bank.

He was an avid fan of the SMU Mustangs and the Dallas Cowboys. His life long passions, other than Margie, were sailing and aviation. He was very active in many community and industry related clubs including Dallas Country Club, Dallas Petroleum Club, All American Wildcatters, Explorers Club, the American Association of Petroleum Landmen and the Independent Petroleum Association of America.

The Germany family would like to thank Karen, Irene, Gayle, Hugo and Jane of the VNA Hospice Program for their loving care and support.
