I have just learned of Dr. Santoro's passing and I am deeply saddened.
I worked with Dr. Santoro at SMC for 10 years. I worked in the Medical Affairs Office and was responsible for the credentialing of physicians. As such, I developed a close relationship with Dr. Santoro, first while he was the Division Director of Gastroenterology and then when he was President of the Medical Staff. We forged a close working relationship which grew into a friendship.
He was one of the most compassionate, intelligent and gracious men I have ever met. His excellence in providing healthcare to his patients was unsurpassed.
Dr. Santoro will be missed by so very many people across a broad spectrum of professions and friendships.
I offer my deepest condolences and prayers to his family.

I know that we had previously sent our condolences to Dr. Santoro's family, but today, I was looking at his guest book and reading all of the beautiful comments about him and how so true they are. He was one of the kindest, most compassionate & caring doctors we have known. He always knew how to put you at ease. Ray and I were his patients over the last few years, starting in 2002. The last colonoscopy with him for me was in February, 2020. We are still in shock over his passing and miss him dearly. He truly was a blessing from God. His Christmas will be the most blessed as he spends it with the Holy Family. We wish the Santoro family a blessed Christmas also. He is with you in spirit.

Merry Christmas,

John was not just a man but so much more. He made a huge mark in this world that will last for many years. I first met John when I was a third year medical student and rotates with him during the month of August 1988. He opened my eyes and interest to GI and probably was the main reason why I became a GI. I am now chief of GI for Trinity Health Mid Atlantic in southeastern PA. I have invited John up for several dinner lectures and I think his first experience at Fogo de Chau Brazilian steak house was because of me. He loved it and was able to coerce the waiter to allow him to take home a doggie bad for his wife Sharlene. I have many great memories of John and how influential of a man he was. I cannot imagine how things are at home without him. So sad. I loved him.
We all loved him.

To the family which John so deeply adored. I knew John as a fellow resident at. J.F. Kennedy and later on as we both practiced medicine in southern New Jersey. I always stood in the shadow of his briliance, competiveness, kindness. and compassion. While I did not see John often when I did it was like old times in less than five minutes We were of a kindred breed. Born out of the JFK medicine residency program Inspired by Jim Giudice friends forever, and ever I am so sad

I LOVED LOVED Dr. Santoro. I moved down here from Delaware County, Pa. just outside of Philly 36 years ago. I first went to Dr. Santoro in 1985 and have been going every two years since. I am heart broken. I know he loved Pardre Pio (Saint Pio) and told me his hands were blessed by his glove. I told him we had a Miracle in the family and went to his Canonization in Rome. We always talked about traveling. I know he wanted to go to Ireland when we last spoke two years ago. He told me I believe his grandmother was born in Dublin. I believe her first name was "Rose" but just cannot remember her last name. He told me he would get in touch with me when he decided to go so I could tell him the places if interest. I go over about every 4 years. I am first generation Irish. He always, and I mean always took the time to talk to you about first your health and then anything else (lol).... yes you had to wait a while during a visit to get into to see him. (lol).... I was saying a Novena to St. Padre Pio and a new (blessed) young man going to be a saint Carlo Acutis 16 who passed about three years ago and is going to be canonized soon. Again I am Heart Broken. Please take care and your family will be in prayers. Terry Donegan-Parson

Always keep his memory’s alive and continue to make him proud as his stands next to Uncle Ed, Aunt Ro and many others that left before him and greeted him with love as he walked through the beautiful gates of heaven! God bless you all and continue to show him how strong our family is by honoring his legacy and memories!

Having you for a brother in law (considered a brother) for 50 years is still not long enough. We will miss your smile, your hugs, your wisdom, advice, your love, your humor and inspiration and especially our random phone calls (sometimes funny, sometimes political and a lot of just asking your advise or wanting your point of view. I have always looked up to you and will still look up to you but now in heaven! Vacations will never be the same without you. You have touched so many lives with your unconditional love! Also one of the best Doctors ever! Our family is heartbroken without you! A piece of our heart has gone with you! Please look over us until we all meet again

I am a loss for words. There is a special place in heaven waiting for you John. Your medical expertise has help so many people. Your kindness and always being available with advise and help is commendable. I could never thank you enough for all that you have done for me. Thank you to the Santoro family for giving us your Dad,Husband. The dedication he had to his medical practice and to his patients was a sacrifice made by his family and I personally can´t thank all of you enough. John, my Brother in law, my Brother. 50 years with you will never be long enough. You left us too soon and I still can not believe you are gone. You were an Amazing Doctor and an Amazing man! You loved your family so much and were always available to offer help to your family and friends when we needed general advice or health questions. We shared longtime memories & laughs and longtime dreams of the future. John, you were the light that gave us hope & vision and you leave us with an impressive Legacy. Its so hard to say goodbye and I'll be missing our conversations just knowing you were always there but I will see you again someday. Love you, miss you
