Laverne Elliott

1932 - 2018

Laverne Elliott went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2018 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 86. Mrs. Elliott, a resident of Keller, Texas, passed peacefully with loved ones at her bedside. Mrs. Elliott was born June 8, 1932 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to J.D. and Nell (Bailey) Alexander and lived most of her life in and around Carlsbad, graduating from Carlsbad High School in 1949. In 2013 Mrs. Elliott moved to Keller, Texas to spend her remaining years close to family.
Mrs. Elliott worked at various jobs during her career, beginning with Post Master in Orla, Texas. She later went to work at Jenkins Furniture store as a receptionist and bookkeeper. Laverne then moved up to become office manager for KCCC radio where she helped Marion Jenkins co-host a daily call-in show for 13 years. She later pursued her interest in art, publishing prints of over 200 of her original works which can be seen in galleries and private homes throughout the United States. She continued to paint after her retirement from business until her death.
Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Elliott, her mother and father J.D. and Nell Alexander, brother, Larry Alexander, and grandson, Seth Hale. She leaves behind her son, Paul Hale and wife Bobbie of Abilene, Texas; daughter, Twila Medina and husband Louie of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and son Randy Hale and wife Martha of Keller, Texas. She was also "Mamaw" to grandchildren Jason Holman, Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Shawn Hale and wife Maria, Keller, Texas; Tiffawnie Young and husband Jeff, Carlsbad, New Mexico; Travis Hale and wife Lisa, Keller, Texas; Chad Hale and wife Naomi, Keller, Texas; and great-grandchildren Kevin Holman, Paxton Long, Trystan Hale, Peyten Young, Phillip Young, Roycee Long, Essie Hale, Kaleb Hale, Harper Hale, and Sadie Hale.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the West Funeral Home Chapel with her son, Paul Hale officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (new section). Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at West Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Travis Hale, Chad Hale, Shawn Hale, Dale Stanford, Dale Griffin and Jeff Young.
In lieu of flowers donations can be given in her name to the Carlsbad Area Art Association or the American Cancer Society. Services have been entrusted to West Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com.
