Preston L. Mayes, 36, of Farmington, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017, in Farmington. He was born April 15, 1980 in Farmington to Alice Mayes-Ellison and Curtis L. Ward.
Our beloved Preston Mayes passed from this life on Thursday April 6, 2017. Preston attended Farmington High School and had taken classed at San Juan College. Preston was a loving and gentle person who always had a smile on his face. He loved his family and friends and he always made an effort to stay in contact with them. Preston had an infectious laugh and beautiful sense of humor. He loved to dance and he loved his music. Even though Preston struggled with health issues he always did his best to overcome. Gerome Mayes was the light of his life. Preston's family and friends of all walks of life loved and adored him. Thanks to everyone for your outpouring of love. A special place in our hearts will always be reserved just for you, Preston.
Preston was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Otis Mayes Sr. He is survived by his mother, Alice Mayes-Ellison; father, Curtis L. Ward; sister, Tamica Mayes; grandmother, Nannie Mayes; aunts, Gidget Mayes, Thelma Newton (Billy) and Diane McCants; uncle, James Mayes; niece, Jasmine Mayes; nephews, Gerome Mayes and Austin Mayes; cousins, Monisha Mayes, Rakisha Saenz and AB Combs; and a host of other loving family members.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 at the Cross Roads Community Church, 2400 N. Butler Ave. in Farmington officiated by Pastor Neil Johnson.
A Celebration of Life Dinner will follow the service as Preston's request to be cremated has been respected.
Honorary Pallbearers are Gerome Mayes, Austin Mayes, James Mayes, AB Combs and Mario Saenz.
