John Mrkvicka

1955 - 2016

Frederick, CO resident John R. Mrkvicka, died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at St. Anthony's North Hospital after a prolonged battle against cancer. He was 61. John Richard Mrkvicka was born October 12, 1955, in Hinsdale, IL, the son of Ruth Caroline (Phillips) and Edward Francis Mrkvicka. John grew up in Downers Grove, IL and graduated from high school there in 1973. He went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in History and a minor in Fine Arts from Drake University in 1979. John married Cindy Parke on August 19, 1978 at the Downers Grove, IL First United Methodist Church. They were residents of Lafayette, CO for 30 years before moving to Frederick. Bowling, traveling, fishing, reading and collecting baseball cards were favorite hobbies of John. He also was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Cubs. Preceding John in death were his parents. Surviving family members include his wife of 38 years Cindy, his sister Lynn Thygesen and her husband Clifford, and his brother Edward F. Mrkvicka, Jr. Some of his surviving nieces and nephews include Kenneth Thygesen, Cheryl Wisott and her husband Randy, Jennifer Goshia and her husband Keith, Steven Thygesen and his wife Carmen Nicole, Kelly Mrkvicka and her fiancée Andy Bihlmaier, and Edward F. Mrkvicka III. There are also numerous relatives on Cindy's side who will miss him terribly. There will a funeral service for John on Sunday, October 23, at 3:00 PM, at the Darrell Howe Mortuary, 1701 W. South Boulder Rd., Lafayette, CO 80026.
