Carroll Ehrke Obituary

Carroll Christian "Chris" Ehrke, 71, passed away peacefully in his Arbuckle home, surrounded by friends and family on Thursday, March 20th, 2014.

He was born on May 16, 1942 to August and Helen Ehrke, in Woodland, California. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Marjory; sons, Martin of Arbuckle and Nathan of Knights Landing; grandsons, Brandon and Daniel; mother, Helen Ehrke; brother and sister-in- law, Allen and Bonnie Ehrke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, August "Curly" Ehrke.

He grew up in College City, attending grammar school there. He graduated from Pierce High School, after which he started farming wheat and later almonds. He also leveled land and worked for Fish and Game where he cleared trees and brush, built roads and ponds, which was one of his many passions.

Chris was known locally for his sausage and jerky, another passion he thoroughly enjoyed. After retiring form from farming, he took up the hobby of canning anything and everything, in addition to still making sausage and jerky.

Always a steward of the land, Chris loved improving his Oregon property for the deer and elk, building ponds and sowing grass seed. In the winter, he continued to feed the chipmunks, quail, rabbits and squirrels. He was very proud of his newly created habitats.

Chris loved traveling the United States, Mexico and Canada. He leaves behind many special friends who will always remember his generosity, big heart and especially his sausage.

Per Chris's wishes, there will be no formal public viewing; instead there will be a celebration of Chris's life on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the McNary-Moore Funeral Chapel located at 107 5th Street, Colusa CA.

Memorial contributions can be made in Chris's name to the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 for special instructions or to the charity of your choice.
