David Ney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 20, 2008.
SUNBURY - David Allen Ney, 66, of Sunbury, went to be with his Savior on Tuesday afternoon, June 17, 2008. He will be missed by family and friends, though the pain of our loss will be lessened knowing that we will see him again when we join him in Heaven.
He was a son of the late Rev. James C. and Iva D. Nye. He is survived by his wife, Nancy C. Ney, whom he married in 1962.
Dave was a 1960 graduate of Sunbury High School and later became a member of the Shikellamy school board.
After the death of his parents, Dave and his family left his business in Maryland and moved back to Pennsylvania to take over the Bible Depot, a request of his father's. At the same time, he successfully farmed 20 acres abundant with produce and animals.
Dave's passion for capturing the world with his camera eventually led him to become chief photographer for The Daily Item and a popular freelance wedding photographer. He also used his extensive knowledge of computers to further a career as a specialist at Radio Shack, eventually teaching adults at Susquehanna University.
Dave and Nancy retired in 1998 and moved to Palm Bay, Fla. They were foster parents in Florida and changed the lives of many children through their love, patience and devotion. They shared time with family and friends by spending their summers in Pennsylvania. One could always expect an enjoyable day at their campsite fishing, tubing or having a picnic.
Dave had numerous hobbies and enjoyed each to its fullest. He enjoyed scuba diving and founded the Susquehanna Rescue Team. He loved music and would spend quiet times at his piano, playing his favorite hymns and especially his favorite piece, "Moonlight Sonata." He loved riding motorcycles, building and flying model airplanes, boating and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Christina M. Campbell, David A. Ney Jr., Amy L. Ney, Nannette I. Cooper and Kenneth E. Ney; three grandchildren, Tara Nicole Campbell, Collin James Ney and Nicholas Shawn Cooper; two sisters, Jane L. Baker and Marian R. Ocker; and two brothers, John R. Ney and Daniel E. Ney.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard K. Ney and James C. Ney Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity United Methodist Church, King Street, Northumberland. A light lunch will be served for family and friends in the church hall after the service.
Dave touched many lives with his unselfish love and chose to continue doing this even after his death by being an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, he would want others to follow his example of serving God by truly loving and helping others.

This is from your big sister who is in a rehab center in Florida learning to walk after extensive back surgery.
I will never forget the day in the late 1940's when we were putting in a swimming pool at the Bible Conference at Redrock. You were about 6 and I was 16. somehow you put your hand in the cement mixer and it was badly mangled. I grabbed a towel and held it tightly on your wrist until we got to the hospital 30 miles away. You made me promise I would not leave you. When the E.R. saw it, they took you right to the operating room. You told all the staff that I was not going to leave you. You said,"Jane, if you lie you will not go to heaven! Everyone laughed! I kept the promise and stayed with you the entire stay. You carried that scar with you always.
You and I share a love for music, espically piano and organ.
Maybe it was because we took the lessons Jack and Jimmy were to take!
Dad worked hard all his life to make a store available for people to buy Christian literature and Bibles. When he died, none of us were able to carry it on. You and your wonderful wife Nancy came to Sunbury and sacrificed unselfishly to carry on the ministry. Woody and June Maneval now carry it on.
I will never forget you my little blonde brother.. Will be together again in and Heaven and maybe we will be able to play a harp together!
Your big sister ,Jane

Dear Nancy, I came across this poem."Life is so short. One or the other must leave. one or the other must stay. One or the other must grieve; That is forever the way. That is the vow that was sworn,"Faithful till death do us part",Braving what has to be born,Hiding the ache in the heart. One, however adored, First must be summoned away. That is the will of the Lord. One or the other must stay. Author unknown.

My most sincere sympathy goes to you and your family.
I met David when I was 4 years old or younger. His sister Marian and I were best friends. My memory of David was that he was the best big brother anyone could have. Even though we were probably annoying, he was always kind to us. It seemed that when Marian and I were 'busy' somewhere around the house or yard for long periods of time, David would come looking for us. He was never angry, even when he found us cooking summer sausage over a candle in the shed, or working in our worm hospital.
When Marian and I wanted to learn to ice skate, David give me his hockey skates to use. They were very big so we stuffed them with newspaper and they were 'just right'.
Anyone who knew David has good memories of him. He will be missed.

BUDDIES---VERY GOOD BUDDIES!
PUNCHES ON THE ARM, AND KNUCKLES ON THE HEAD!

IN JUNIOR HIGH WE WERE BEST FRIENDS, WITH VERY BIG PLANS! TYPICIAL FOR JR HI --- WE PLANNED ON HAVING A DOUBLE WEDDING, WE WOULD LIVE NEXT DOOR TO EACH OTHER, WORK AT THE SAME JOB, AND RAISE OUR KIDS TOGETHER. I'M SORRY THOSE PLANS DIDN'T WORK OUT.

AT THE AGE OF 50 WE WERE STILL TALKING OVER PLANS, AND THINGS THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DO WITH THE REMAINDER OF OUR LIVES

ONCE WE RAN AWAY TO JIMMYS HOUSE IN WASH. DC. WE WERE GONE 3 WHOLE DAYS! I REMEMBER THROWING MY SUITCASE OUT MY BEDROOM WINDOW SO MY MOM WOULD NOT KNOW WE WERE LEAVING. WHEN IT LANDED ON THE PAVEMENT IT MADE A HUGE THUMP! I OVER HEARD MY MOM SAYING "WELL IT LOOKS LIKE JEFF AND DAVE MIGHT BE RUNNING AWAY! WE HICHED HIKED TO LEWISBURG TO CATCH OURBUS TO DC SO NO ONE WOULD SEE US LEAVE SUNBURY. CAN YOU IMAGINE OUR SURPRISE AS WE SLOUCHED DOWN IN OUR SEATS, WHEN OUR FIRST STOP WAS SUNBURY!

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT DAVE AND I SHARED WAS OUR FAITH IN GOD!

DAVE WAS MY FRIEND FOREVER, MY BEST FRIEND!

I'LL MISS YOU DAVE ! JEFF KUNKLE

Dear Nancy and family,
What a blessing you and Dave have been in our lives. We will miss him so very much. We'll always treasure the memories we have, especially those times we spent as guests in your home. Oh, how we compared the similarties in our lives and appreciated the differences. We are grieving with you on this side and counting Dave as another reason to look forward to a new life in a better place. Like sunshine on a dreary day is the thought that Dave who was such a "doer" will have a new and perfect body that will never wear out!

Dave was a great Father and a good neighbor. Our Son, Steve, became friends with the Nye children and spent many hours at their home in Sunbury. Nancy, you and the children are in our hearts and prayers.

Dave is the man that changed my life.

He was not only my mentor but also a wonderful friend. From the first day we met in front of Selinsgrove High School, he took me under his wing and start the process of molding me into a photojournalist.

We spent countless hours together shooting and in the darkroom. Dave showed me how to love every minute.

He will be greatly missed for many reasons by many people.
