Amy Nelson Obituary

HAMPTON - Amy K. Nelson, 51, of Hampton, passed away suddenly on Aug. 3, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Maxine Nelson.
She is survived by her sister, Sue Norton; brother, Sam Nelson; nephews, Steve Nelson, Todd Nelson, Brian Norton; and niece, Kim Cooper, along with several great-nieces and nephews.
She grew up in the Hampton Roads area, graduating from Bethel High and Radford University. She led a fun filled life, helping and doing for others as often as she could. She was always very enthusiastic and loved spending time with her great-nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
Amy, you shared these words with me and now I share them with you . . .
"This is to remind you how unique our relationship is and to tell you that you could never, ever be replaced in my life. It is to let you know how much I appreciate you. It's a thank you for every time you have shared a worry or tear, every time you have listened and been the only one who understood, and every time you were there when I had nowhere else to turn. It's to assure you that our relationship is one of the most important in my life, and that you are not only my sister, but a dear and treasured friend. It's to tell you that I love you."
I will truly always miss and love you . . . love, your sister.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Amy was a sensitive, caring and giving person who has left this world too soon. My heart is sad at the loss of a person with such a big heart and a love of life. Amy was creative, artistic, energetic and fun loving.

I first met Amy at Sir Speedy Printing in Hampton where she was an account executive. She had the personality for sales and the customers liked her a lot.

We became friends and had a lot of great times over the years including the best graduation party anyone has ever thrown for me. That is a happy memory for many people who were there. Amy was a big supporter of my finally getting my college degree and for that I will always be grateful.

Amy touched a lot of lives in a positive way and will be missed by many – most of all her loving sister. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all the family as you face this sorrowful time.

Amy taught me how to ride a bike, tie my shoe, and introduced me to New York City. I will ALWAYS remember the good times and the laughs. I will keep her in my heart. Love to her family and may they find comfort in knowing she will be remembered by her friends.

Dear Sue and Kim,
I was just heard from my Mom tonight about Amy passing away. I am so very sorry to hear about this. I hope that she knows how many lives she touched and helped. Certainly many of us who knew her owe her a lot, helping us through some difficult times during our formative years. Whether it was dispensing career advice or how to handle life when things just did not go our way, she always knew the right things to say, to both make us feel better and to allow us to LEARN something from each experience. Like Vick, I cannot see a Miata or a can of Miller Lite without thinking of her and her love of life itself. My sincere sympathies and apologies for not being able to make it this week!

My heart is heavy with sadness over the loss of Amy. I'll never forget meeting her at Kim's 16th birthday party. I thought Kim had the coolest Aunt in the whole world. Little did I know she would be like an aunt to me over the next 20 years. She was closer to me than any of my blood related aunts. We shared laughs, we went on trips together and through my teen and college years she kept me out of trouble. She mentored me through difficult times. Even though the miles seperated us, she still kept in touch with me. She always cared about what I was doing and what was going on in my life. For that I am so grateful.

Amy meant alot to me. I will never see a tub of Food Lion Dip (FLD) and not think of her. I'll miss her phone calls. I'll miss sharing a Miller Lite together. I'll miss hearing her talk about how much she loved Nags Head. I'll miss her friendship, love and support.

To Sue, Kim, Ed, Alyssa, Bailey, Cayden, Brian, Jennifer and the rest of your family, you have my deepest sympathy. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

To Amy's family, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy for your loss. I went to school at Bethel with Amy and we had a Journalism class together with Ms. Buswell. Amy was such a delightful person to be around. I am so sorry for your loss.

Sam and Sue, my wish for you today and through the days to come is that God will help you each find your own peace. I will always remember the fun, caring, and sharing spirit of Amy. Directing Easter egg hunts, camping, playing school are activities that bring images to my mind and a smile to my heart. Amy, rest in peace.
With Love and Sympathy, Cheryle
