Dear Skoutelas Family,
I had the honor and pleasure of having Mr.Skoutelas not only in 4th grade, but then again in 6th grade. He was a great teacher, but more than that a wonderful person. Still to this day I always wondered what he was up to and hoped to had see him one of these days, and I'm almost 21! He was one of those teachers you never forget. My sincerest sympathies to your family for your loss.

My heart goes out to the Skoutelas family during this difficult time. Tony will always be remembered for making a difference in the lives of the children he touched. I think back to the many fun times we had at Odyssey. Seeing Mr.S. dressed up like a referee for Halloween. Remembering how much joy he had in him hearing the children sing at the Holiday show. Mr Skoutelas will remain forever in our hearts.

I worked with Tony at Stony Creek Elementary and was so impressed with his love of family, life and, of course, Gerry Garcia ties. I know the world is a better place because of Tony's presence on earth.
Tony was a wonderful person, and will be missed.
My sincerest condolences to his family.

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Skoutelas as my 4th grade teacher in 1999/2000 at Stony Creek Elementary. Though many years have passed since then, I still remember all the things he taught me. Not the least of which was to always pursue what I love, and to give it my all. About 3 years ago I e-mailed him just to say hello, and he still remembered me and my family, and even guessed what my major in college was, which just goes to show the kind of person he was, and how dedicated he was to his students. He was an inspiring man, and his passing is a truly great loss, but he will always be remembered.

I am so sorry to hear of Tony's passing... I grew up with Tony in Holland.... I remember him from elementary school through high school.... he was a super nice guy!! I am not surprised at all to read all of the wonderful things about him. I have wonderful memories of Tony from school and summers running around the neighborhood playing things like 'kick the can' with what seemed like half of the neighborhood.... He will be sorely missed... My prayers to his family .... so sorry for the loss...

Dear Skoutelas Family;

I had the pleasure of meeting Tony a few years ago at a charter school conference in Miami. What a wonderful person and truly a breathe of fresh air in the Greek charter school arena. I am involved with Socrates Academy here in Charlotte and we spoke on several occasions. He was always willing to offer his experiences and listen to what we did. Together we had a number of heart-felt discussions about the Greek government along with the Greek teachers we received. He will truly be missed but his legacy and works will live on. May his memory be eternal!!

It is with heartfelt saddness that I had to explain to my 4th grader that Mr. Skoutelas was no longer with us. Holding back tears of my own were very difficult. Mr. Skoutelas was a wonderful, personable Headmaster, always in the parking lot greeting all the children and parents with a smile. He will truly be missed.

To the family, may God comfort you during your time of grieving and sorrow, as only He can. Words cannot truly express the heartache and pain felt from the loss of a great leader, father, husband and friend. Please know that the Odyssey family is praying for your peace and strength and is indebeted to you for sharing your loved one with us.

I am so saddened at the loss of an old friend. I have some wonderful memories of Tony, in our teenage years, at all the GOYA functions and I can honestly say he was the most genuine and nicest person I have ever known. While time has passed by and we haven't seen each other as much through the years, I always considered Tony a friend and am so very proud, humbled and honored to do so. Lambro, Pano, Charissa & Ariana:

Our hearts are heavy with sadness at the passing of your wonderful husband and Baba. We will never forget him and his memory will live on through all of you – especially you kids! Your Baba was so proud of all of you. There wasn't a time when we saw him that Theo Giorgo and Theia Julie didn't comment on what wonderful kids you all are (by the way, he and your Mama have always been role models for us on how to be good parents!). There was always a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face, especially when he spoke about the three of you. Know that he will always be with you – cheering you on and laughing with you in the good times and putting an arm around you during the difficult times.

As much as he loved the three of you, your Baba’s heart was so big that he was able to show that same love and compassion to hundreds of children at Odyssey and beyond. It was remarkable walking in the hall with him and hearing students say, “Hi, Mr. Skoutelas” and him addressing each child by name and greeting them. Teddy and Alexandros loved your Baba! He always scooped them up to give them hugs and said, “How are you, buddy?” in that sweet, compassionate voice. He had the ability to make everyone feel like they were special. Upon seeing him, the first thing he always asked was, “How is the family? How are the boys?” His sincere interest in other people’s well-being and happiness was an inspiration.

We were all blessed to have Tony in our lives! He was compassionate, kind, gentle, caring, empathetic, encouraging, energetic, loving, determined, the list goes on….

We will miss him tremendously. He was one of a kind. May his memory be eternal.

Me poli agapi kai filakia polla,

Terry & Frankie Reigle

October 22, 2011

In September of 1999, Mr. Skoutelas was in his first year as 4th grade teacher at Stony Creek Elementary School in Blue Bell, PA. My son Frankie was lucky to be in his class. We had lost Frankie's dad, my husband in February of that year. What could have been a difficult year for Frankie, was made easier by Mr. Skoutelas with his time and encouragement. We knew he was a family man. For Holloween that year his wife brought in the twins dressed as "Crayola Crayons." The smile on his face said it all. In 5th grade, when a bush was planted in memory of "Michael", he was there with words about Michael as if he knew him. I guess we talked about him so much and he listened, he did know him through us. "The Memory of a good person is a blessing." We were blessed to have known Mr. Skoutelas. His memory will always hold a special place in our heart.
To Mrs. Skoutelas and family we are so sorry for your loss.

I will never forget everything you brought to this world and all the kids you made happy. I remember the first time we met and my grandma made me do push-ups for you. You were such a kind person and everyone loved you. You inspired me and so many more to do great things. You were one of the nicest people I ever knew. Odyssey will never be the same wihtout you, but they will carry on in your name, and so will I.

Dear Daphne and family,

As devastated as his entire staff is by this, I can't even imagine how his family must feel. My heart is breaking for you and for everyone who knew and loved this truly remarkable man. I am so grateful that I had three amazing years with him at OCS as a principal, mentor, and friend. I always felt that he looked out for me like a second dad, calling me "kid" and making sure I was doing ok in my first three years of teaching: professionally and personally! It's hard to believe he won't ever walk the halls of OCS again, but we will all do our best to carry out his vision as a way to honor his life. I miss him deeply and will never forget him.

Tony was on the church board with me (Alex Soutos) and he was a very caring individual. He didn't have a bad bone in his body. He helped St. george so much. He will be missed by his family, friends, students and most of all his church.

Mr. Skoutelas as our children know him by was an amazing educator, leader and had an amazing heart. When one of our twins who attended Odyssey was ill Mr. Skoutelas always made sure she had what she needed to succeed in school. The comfort he gave during that time and his genuine concern for her and all of the children was truly amazing with all of things he had to do. We truly feel privileged to have had Mr. Skoutelas as our childrens headmaster for all of these years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

Daphne and Family,
I am truly at a loss for words right now and cannot accept it in my mind and heart that he is no longer with us. Tony was a wonderful boss and mentor but above all he was an amazing friend! I will use the wonderful words of advice he gave me to help guide my path in life. My thoughts and prayers are with you. He will always have a special place in my heart!

My heart has broken for the Skoutelas family. Words can't express the loss that our community is experiencing in losing tony. tony was not only a mentor to hundreds of youth in our area but he was also a mentor to many adults as well. the world has lost a hero in losing tony.

Tony was my brother-in-law. My husband, Demetri, is Daphne's younger brother. Demetri and Tony were extremely close. I have often said to my husband over the years, "If you had not met Tony through Daphne, but rather met him by chance someplace else, you would have still become best friends." We are heartbroken at the loss of such a wonderful part of our family. I'll miss talking to him, his reassuring voice, his positive outlook, his genuine nature and kind spirit. But I see all of these qualities in his amazing children and I am comforted to know that his legacy-which is so deeply profound, will be carried on through them.

Tony and my 6-yr-old son (who adored his Theo Tony) would end every phone conversation by telling each other, 'You rock!' So goodbye Tony. We love you, we'll miss you...and you will forever in our hearts rock!

I am a 4th grader at Odyssey and I am sad that such a wonderful person had to leave this earth. He always made me feel special and I always knew that he cared about me. When I was having a bad day, Mr. Skoutelas found a way to make me smile and cheer me up! I will miss him. My entire family and myself send thoughts and prayers.

This indeed is a sad day. Mr. Skoutelas (Tony) was such a kind & gentle man, so wonderful to many people! It was a blessing to have the opportunity to know him, and he will be missed by many. I do hope his contributions to the Charter School community will have permanent legacy to all. My heartfelt condolences & prayers to his family.

Mr. Skoutelas was a very kind, personable man, whose dedication to Odyssey Charter School was readily apparent. Our family only had the privilege of making Mr. Skoutelas' acquaintance last year when our son became a student at OCS, and we were very impressed by his wonderful leadership of the amazing school that he helped found. Our deepest condolences go out to Mr. Skoutelas' family and Odyssey Charter School.

Very rarely in life do you meet someone as kind hearted and good natured as Tony. I went to law school with him and we were roommates for 2 years. He was smart and extremely popular with all of the faculty and students. My thoughts and prayers are extended to his family. With deep sympathy, Joe Walsh

Tony and I were roommates in law school. He was the nicest and most generous person I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He enjoyed having fun with friends and family more than anything. Although we only spoke infrequently over the last few years I always counted him as a good friend.

We will all miss him and our sympathies to his wonderful family, whom he loved more than anything.

Mr. Skoutelas or Tony to all of us, who worked with him, was an inspiring educator who believed in the success of all students. Tony would always find time in his busy day to visit students' classrooms and talk with students' teachers. Tony was able to motivate every student to work into achieving every goal, no matter how challenging it would sound. He would greet every student in the morning and be outside the school-no matter what the weather conditions were- welcoming students and families. He would do the same at the end of the school day. Tony was an administrator, who showed true respect to the work and ideas of his teachers, whom he saw as colleagues. I think that this was the reason we all felt of Odyssey as an extension of our home. I had the privilege to work as a teacher at Odyssey during the first two years the school opened and continued working with Tony and the school's teachers the years after. Tony had great respect for the work of all teachers and believed in the provision of quality education to all students and on-going learning of all teachers. Odyssey Charter is in a path of success, because of his hard work and dedication. He will be missed by all of us! I am confident, though, that he will be smiling every time his students progress and achieve their goals and dreams.

If Tony the principal and educator had so many traits, Tony the husband and father surely had many more. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family!

We first met Tony back in 2005 when OCS was just beginning. Our son Hunter Lord was one of Tony's buddies at OCS, because they would tease each other about Penn State and Notre Dame! Just a loss to the family of Odyssey Charter School. I have never met someone with such passion as Tony for the love of kids and education. You are all in our prayers.....Teresa,Martin and Hunter Lord

My son is in kindergarten at OCS and one of the reasons I applied to the school was because I was so impressed with Mr. Skoutelas and his staff when I attended an open house at the school. I am sorry that we will not have the privilege of getting to know Mr. Skoutelas personally but I feel honored that we are a part of his OCS family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Skoutelas family and friends and also with his OCS family.

Patient, compassionate, thoughtful, and smart, Tony was all these, but most of all he was truly good of spirit and intent. My deepest condolences to his family, who so graciously shared him with his school family for many years.
