Amanda Hagelstein Obituary
Born in Newark, Delaware on April 20, 1992, Amanda was the daughter of Walter A. Hagelstein III and Catherine A. Callaway. She was a 2010 graduate of the Charter School of Wilmington where she was a member of the swim team and multiple national honor societies and received the Governor's Award for Community Service. A 2014 graduate of the University of Delaware, Amanda majored in foreign languages and literature and was fluent in Spanish, French and German. She was an exceptional student who made the Dean's list numerous times and was a recipient of the German Book award.
Active in her community, Amanda worked at the YMCA of Bear where she was a swim instructor and life-guard. She recently began her career as a sales executive with Porsche of Delaware in Newark. Outgoing and positive, Amanda was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, aunt, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed by all.
She is survived by her devoted mother, Cathy Callaway of New Castle, with whom she lived; father, Walter A. Hagelstein III and wife, Andrea of Bear and her children, Amanda Rose Lala (Joseph), Renato Kane and Alicia Kane; maternal grandparents, Betty and Jerry Callaway of North East, MD; aunts, Carolyn ""Aunt CC"" Callaway of Elkton, MD and Francie Callaway Peters (Eric) of Wilmington, with whom she shared a special bond; cousins, Samantha and Cameron Peters of Wilmington; paternal grandparents, Brenda and Walter Hagelstein, Jr. of Middletown; step-grandmother, Rose Ranauto of Wilmington; aunts, Jeanine Heath (Geoffrey) and Adrienne Shearer (Andrew) all of Bear; cousins, Geoffrey, Jr., and Abigail Heath and Aubrey and Benja-min Shearer; step-nephew, Joseph Nicholas Lala; special friend, Nathan Farmer; and many extended family members and friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 8 pm on Thursday evening, March 12, 2015 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where a funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, March 13, 2015. In-terment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Amanda's name may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Walt-We don't have good enough words to express our grief for your loss. In the brief time we knew Amanda mostly through our interactions at the YMCA pool it was obvious that she was a very special and loving girl. She was just so likeable and her smile so endearing. I met Amanda while working/living at The University Courtyards in Newark. I helped train Amanda and knew right the start that she was a perfect addition to the team! She was truly an amazing person and friend. She was always there for me in my times of need, both on and off the clock. We both were in the car dealership business and she had mentioned to me that as women in a male dominated field we had to stick together.
She was an inspiration and will be missed every single day. Prayers and thoughts are with you all.

I met your daughter at the Porsche dealership on Tuesday, March 3. I was there to sign paperwork and she came and introduced herself and was so sweet and kind. Its evident Amanda possessed the same passion in her pursuits. Tragedy is without justification or warning and the sense of loss incomprehensible.
