Joel was a good classicist, a good teacher, and a good man. The CoJCL will miss him sorely, as will we. To Joel's Mother and his children: we are deeply sorry for your loss.

Joel Berk was a modern humanities scholar of the languages and literatures of ancient Greece and Rome; the classics. He wore a perpetual smile and a vest.
We shared many wonderful times at Red Rocks concerts, homemade meals of green chili, BBQ excursions, and decades of friendship.
I am deeply saddened at his passing. Joel’s honest and hearty laughter will be missed by all.
My most sincere condolences go to his family for their loss.

Please accept my shared grief at Joel's passing. He was a valued colleague and friend to me, and brought great passion to the classroom and to Junior Classical League events. My condolences go especially to his children whom he so often told me about with immense affection in his voice. I am so sorry for your loss.
