Marion Van Hal Obituary

Marion Van Hal

Pella

Marion Edward Van Hal was born on April 1, 1935, to William and Wilma Wichhart Van Hal on the family farm near Pella, Iowa. He graduated from Pella High School with the class of 1953.

On November 11, 1953, Marion was united in marriage to Joan Brummel in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Bruce, Mark, Steve, and Linda.

Marion was employed at the Pella Rolscreen Company, now known as Pella Corporation, for forty years. He served his country with the Naval Reserves. Marion was an avid antique radio collector and enjoyed being an active member of the Dutch Masters Antique Car Club and the Antique Radio Club. He owned a 1940 Indian motorcycle and for many years drove it in Pella's annual Tulip Time Festival. He was a champion in the national Monster Arm Wrestling organization.

Marion was a faithful member of Trinity Reformed Church in Pella where he made confession of faith in 1954. He will always be remembered as a family man with great integrity, wisdom, and humility. He was a strong, yet gentle person. He took care of his family and neighbors (and he could fix anything.)

He passed away Monday morning, December 9, 2013, at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines at the age of seventy-eight. He will always be remembered in the hearts of his family: his wife of sixty years, Joan, of Pella; his four children and their spouses: Bruce and Suzie Van Hal, Mark and Nancy Van Hal, Linda and John Steddom; and his daughter-in-law, Lori Van Hal. He is also survived by his brother Bob Van Hal of Pella, and sister June Morrison and her husband Jerry of Oskaloosa, and brother-in-law Henry Van Leeuwen of Hanover, Indiana; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Marion is preceded in death by his parents, son Stephen Van Hal, sister Marie Van Leeuwen, and brother Don Van Hal.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 13 at 10:30 am at Trinity Reformed Church. Visitation will begin Thursday at Noon with family present 4-7 pm at Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
