James Penick Obituary
Carlisle - James Owen Penick, 81, of Carlisle died Monday, March 1, 2021 at home. Services will be held at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle on Saturday, March 6 at 10:00 am. Jim was born on June 7, 1939 in Puckerbrush, Iowa the son of Owen and Grace Penick. He graduated from Carlisle High School in 1957. He married the love of his life, Joyce (Mott), on January 31, 1958.
Jim was a dedicated farmer who began farming at the young age of 14 and continued that lifelong passion for the remainder of his years. He had a love for John Deere equipment, producing crops, and raising livestock. Jim won numerous farming awards throughout his career, including Warren County Master Pork Producer, Warren County Environmental Award, and the Iowa Environmental Stewardship Award. Jim thoroughly enjoyed playing cards with friends, camping and traveling in the motorhome, and attending grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events.
Jim will be greatly missed by his family. Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Joyce Penick; son Mike (Tracy) Penick; son Les (Theresa) Penick; granddaughters Lisa (Brandon) Schoborg, Stephanie (Kyle) Stephens, Jill (Beau) Dielschneider, Courtney (Drew) Teghtmeyer, Kris (Trevor) Arganbright; great-grandchildren Olivia, Ellie, and Aubrey Schoborg; Ada, Allie, Anna, and E.J. Stephens; Sylvie and Violet Dielschneider; Millicent Teghtmeyer; Rudy Arganbright; siblings Eva Gill, Sharon (Jan) Saunders, and Dennis (Angie) Penick; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Owen and Grace Penick; in-laws, Tom and Flavia Mott.
Jim would always say, "glad you got to see me"… and yes, we are so very glad we got to see you!
Memorial contributions may be made to Carlisle Dollars for Scholars or the Carlisle Alumni Association.
Face masks will be required for those attending the funeral service. Anyone not attending due to COVID concerns may join via live stream on the funeral home website. The family would like to also invite those choosing not to attend the funeral in person to join them at the Scotch Ridge Cemetery for a short committal ceremony following the funeral.
