Jesse, it seems like forever that you walked out of school for the last time. I'm so grateful for the conversations we had, for the beautiful writing you have allowed me to share, and for the brilliance and wisdom you possessed far beyond your years. Your little boy is growing up handsome and strong just like you. You are not forgotten.

Jesse, you would have been proud of your family and friends Friday. You would have been even prouder of your country to see so many patriots, many who didn't know you, turning out to pay respects to you. The Patriot Guard, the Army representatives who were there, your dad...what an incredible man he is and Mrs. McMinn and I agreed that we felt like we were looking at what you would have grown to be, had your life not been cut short. Rest well our son. I wish your dad and the rest of your family the eventual peace that comes with time, however, you will never be forgotten. Mrs. Bryant

It was an honor for me to be able to pay my respects to Jesse on Friday as he passed through Mansfield Friday morning on the way to the Church. I am so grateful for the sacrifice he paid. May God bless his family, and may you find comfort in knowing that he will always be our Hero, and is now a special guardian angel watching over us all.

We watched the procession pass through Granbury, we stood at attention, we cried. We thought of our son that just retired after 22 years in the Army, one of those in Afghanistan, where he narrowly evaded death, but had comrades that didn't. We thought of his two young sons, our grandsons, both in the military......one in that Honor Guard as you passed through Stephenville....but most of all we thought of your loss and of the loss we all suffered with you.
We don't have answers, only the trust that God has tender hands and can heal broken hearts and give sanctuary to the souls of the fallen.
May God bless our young men and women and give comfort to your family.

I am honored to have been a part of seeing Jesse come home, though heartbroken by the circumstances. I offer my sincerest and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jesse Wayne Dietrich. What a young hero he was. I thought the procession was to be at 12:30 p.m. I had friends that were in town in Granbury waiting to show their respect. Had I not been working, I would have been there with them. I watched for it and didn't see it. But then I heard the motorcycles at 2:35 p.m. I knew it had to be for Jesse. I watched the procession coming down 377 W. It was such an honorable procession. Again, I'm honored that I was allowed to watch them go by and say goodbye to Jesse for now. I stood proud and silent, with hand over my heart. May God give you all comfort in your pain. Jesse is in the arms of Our Lord now.
God bless,

Jesse,
As a Patriot Gaurd Rider I have been on many mission's and processions with our Fallen Hero's, and while none of them are an enjoyable occassion, your's was a very hard one to attend. I don't believe any of my Patriot brother's or sister's rode without tears running down their cheek's, or a hard lump in their throat's. When your father C.W.O. Paul Dietrich came to address the Patriot Riders and speak of his thanks to us, word's might have fallen short from what he was wanting to say, but we knew and felt in our heart's what he was wanting to say to us and thank us. But believe me, I can speak for every rider, the Honor, Priviledge, Respect, and love, are definately our thanks to the both of you, for you and all your brother's and sister's in arm's, no matter what branch of our military, ya'll have fought and are still fighting for our right to do what we do. We would pray and wish that this was our last mission for this type occassion, but in reality, realize that there will be 1 too many more. And as you Paul stated that Jesse was your hero, Sir, Jesse and you and all your brother's and sister's in arm's, are our Hero's. You all will alway's and forever be in our heart's, thought's, and prayer's. And all of our Fallen Hero's, Will forever and alway's be loved, and never forgotten. God Bless each and every one of you and your families, And I pray that he keep's you each and every one wrapped safe and tightly in his loveing arm's, and you all come home safe really soon.
Thank You,
Sincerely,
Bobby(Bravo)Rogers,
Patriot Gaurd Rider.

I remember when Jesse first came from Germany to Tarver-Rendon in second grade. He was placed in my class. We had a great year. I am sorry to say I just found out about Jesse today. Between a new school and a new school year, I haven't kept up on local news. Jesse loved reading and I am glad to see he still had that love for reading as he got older. I thought about Jesse a couple of days ago when another student here at my new school reminded me of him. I'll never forget Jesse's loving and caring ways. Anita and Jocelyn, I am so sorry for your loss. Nothing will replace the emptiness you will feel, but you have wonderful memories of an awesome grandson and brother that will help to fill that emptiness.

Jesse was one of those guys that could make your day better by just saying anything. We sat together at decisions, the last year of school I was huge pregnant and he always had something nice to say like you are still very pretty, always talked about the army and how he would be going there when he was done there and how he wanted to do better for his son. He was a great man, father, and hero. Jesse you will be missed. RIP

What an honor it was to have been able to share a part of Jesse's life. I had him in my Biology class at Summit High School. I am an Iraq War Veteran and held a special place for all of my ROTC students I had in class and still do! I was always proud of Jesse and his smile was contagious. He was one of those students who made my job easier and satisfying. I knew he had a passion for his country and a big heart for all those he loved. He will be forever etched in my memory as yet another soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice for my freedom. Thank you Jesse. To his family and son, my heart aches for you and your loss. My prayers are with you during this difficult time.

My heart breaks knowing Kevin will never know his Daddy. I know Jesse's family will never let his memory be forgotten. Jay is like a daughter to us and I know she will have a hard time dealing with her big brother's death. I know Jesse only wanted to provide for his son; & after the hard time he had as a kid, that speaks volumns for the job his Aunt Nita & Uncle Rex did raising
him to be the man he had become. I am praying for the entire family & mourning the loss of another American
soldier, so we can remain free.

To Jesse's family - I had the pleasure of having Jesse as a guest in my home when Kevin was only 2 months old. I am sorry that he will never again visit. He was such a bright young man, and was so proud of his new son. I spoke with him about his commitment to serving in the Armed Forces and he told me that he thought that this was what he should do for his country. He wanted his son to be proud of him. Kevin is my great grandson and every time I see him I am going to tell him about his father and what a hero he was. I am sorry for your loss, and I know it well, for I too have lost not one son, but two.

I am saddened at the loss of such a remarkable young man. I had the privilege of having Jesse as a student in my junior English class. Although I only had him for a sememster, I wish that I could have known him longer. He seemed mature beyond his years. Due to his voracious reading, he always had something intelligent to contribute to class discussions. He talked to me about different books he had read and his insights were always interesting. He is one of those students who comes along that makes you glad you became a teacher. He always talked about the service and how he couldn't wait to go serve his country. How very lucky we all are to have special young men like Jesse who are willing to risk everything, even their very lives so that we can enjoy our freedom. I am so glad to have known Jesse and to have been his teacher. Our loss is great. My sympathy goes out to his family.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to PFC Jessie W. Dietrich our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jessie. And to Jessie it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jessie, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,307 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jessie’s family and loved ones.

To The Dietrich Family,
I get a list of the military killed in service in order to pray for their families. Jesse's request struck me as my last name is Dietrich as well. It made me feel a connection and I wanted to tell you how sorry I am for the loss of Jesse at such a young age. I always make it a point to thank soldiers and the families of soldiers. I am so sorry for your pain. I have been keeping an eye out for when this book got put up on the net. I will be praying for you in the days to come.
May you be comforted to know that people out here in the U.S. care about you and are appreciative of your son and people like him.
