Julia Poindexter Obituary

Julia Ann Hagood Poindexter ARLINGTON -- Julia Ann Hagood Poindexter passed away suddenly from cancer on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, in Arlington, at the age of 85. Her loving husband of 64 years, family, and a host of friends were by her side. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 2 p.m. Saturday, November 11, at First Presbyterian Church, Arlington. MEMORIALS: Donations in her memory can be sent to the National Kidney Foundation (kidney.org) or to First Presbyterian Church Arlington (memo: Music Fund in memory of Judy; 1200 S Collins St, Arlington TX 76010) Judy, as she was known by her friends, was born on April 29, 1932, to Garland Abner Hagood and Laura Estelle Hagood in Greenville. She attended public school in Austin, TX then went on to earn a Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Texas at Austin. She married her high school sweetheart, Craig, on May 30, 1953, and they remained stubbornly devoted to each other for all of those 64 years. Judy and Craig had 3 wonderful children and two lovely grandchildren, but she adopted many more children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren into her heart along the way, all of whom were the joy of her life. Along with children, Judy loved music. She was a music teacher, taught piano lessons, sang in church choirs for most of her life, and played bells. A member of First Presbyterian Arlington for 50 years, Judy volunteered in the music program, was an ordained elder, served on numerous committees, and mothered the youth through many trips and activities. Her sharp memory for events past meant she was the family keeper of stories, history, and events. She would correct us if we got a detail wrong; we loved hearing her stories (even when it was "#5"). Judy was a loving person, doting over every baby she saw, and providing care to those in need whenever she could. She wanted to make everybody happy. She was a true example of how to be an extension of the loving arms of Jesus and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Hagood. SURVIVORS: She is survived by her husband, Craig Poindexter; children, Allan Poindexter of Arlington, Mark Poindexter of Austin, Cindy Tarver (husband, Bill) of Friendswood; grandchildren, Laura Tarver and Matthew Tarver, as well as adopted grandchildren, Brian Fratto, Phillip Fratto and his children, and many others. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Jim Hagood (wife, Mary Beth) of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, Linda Hagood of Florida,; and many nieces and nephews of whom she was also very proud. The Ledford family extends our deepest sympathy to the Poindexter family. We have many great memories of Judy, from the good 'old days at the Locus Park soccer fields. Many times the families would spend hours discussing the games results over dinner at the local IHOP. Judy's involvement was vast in the church, scouting or soccer communities and is appreciated. Thank you Judy for your grace and steadfastness to family. With much love, Lesley
