Elizabeth Whitaker Obituary

Whitaker, Elizabeth
1966 - 2021
Elizabeth "Libby" Whitaker, M.D., 54, of Columbus, passed away on February 8, 2021 after a brave six-year battle against breast cancer. She was born in Fort Dodge, IA to Larry (Sandy) Kudart and Connie Lucas Kocher. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her brother John Kudart, sisters-in-law Danielle Whitaker, Dana Whitaker, and stepfather Robert Kocher. Libby will be dearly missed by her husband, Todd Whitaker, M.D.; children, Penn, Audrey, McKay, and Joe; siblings, Abby (John) Fowler, Joe Kudart, Brenda Cole; sister-in-law, Katrina Kudart; brother-in-law, Robert (Laura) Whitaker; father and mother-in-law, Robert (Dixie) Whitaker; nephews, Jacob, Alex, Luke; and nieces, Macy, Emily, Claire, Kayla, Alex; as well as her stepsiblings, Kevin Kocher, Adam Kocher, Kim Solomon, and Brian Sarbaugh. Libby was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Zanesville High School followed by The University of Akron and earned her medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at Columbus Children's Hospital, OH, where she was selected as Chief Resident. She was a Board Certified Pediatrician, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She was a partner at Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine in Columbus, where she cared for thousands of children and their families for thirty years. She helped train and mentor pediatric residents throughout her career. She was also licensed in Florida, where she provided care for underprivileged children and their families at a clinic in Naples, FL. Libby was faculty at The Nationwide Children's Adoption Academy where she lectured to prospective adoptive parents, was an author of medical articles for a number of local publications, wrote pediatric case studies for the education of healthcare students, and served as an Executive board member of The Crawford Crew Foundation. Libby will be remembered for her contagious laugh, wonderful smile, and the ability to brighten every room she entered. Her kindness, compassion, and love was felt by everyone that ever met her. She was generous with her time and knowledge and never met a child whom she didn't treat as her own. She was a fiercely loyal wife, mother, and friend. She loved her family, her friends, her two dogs, finding shells on the beach, cheering for her kids at athletic events, and decorating her home with her child's artwork. A private Memorial Service celebrating Libby's life will be held Saturday, February 13, 2021. Please refer to www.Schoedinger.com to view the live stream of the service available that day at 10:55AM. A celebration honoring Libby's life will be planned for a later date. Information will be available on the Schoedinger and CaringBridge websites once a date is selected. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Sam's Fans, which supports and enhances music and art therapy programs that serve seriously ill children and their families in Children's hospitals. Dr. Libby was my family physician for several years since the early 2000's. I did not come to know about this till now. It hurts my heart that a family physician who I have known for so long has passed away.

My heart aches... the world has lost a wonderful woman. I loved her "at hello", as they say, when she entered my room the day after my son was born 24 years ago. Whenever I saw her, whether in the office or in the community, those beautiful eyes, warm smile and down to earth personality brightened my day and our world. Saddened to learn she has passed on, but knowing her, she wouldn't want us to mourn. I'm trying to concentrate on the BLESSING that she was during her earthly life.

Libby was in my choirs when she was in junior high school. She was one of my best singers and a favorite student. I am not surprised that she was the successful doctor, wife, mother, friend and loving person that she was as an adult.
My deepest sympathy to Libby's husband and children and to the the Kudart, Kocher, and Whitaker families.

I met Dr. Whitaker just once, yet she left a lasting impression. I brought my two boys into the office to get checked (1.5 year old and 3 month old). Her kind and tender demeanor towards my two children is something I will never forget. She interacted with them as though they were her family. Her gentle and confident touch put me, a new mom with two boys under two, at great ease. I am so sorry to hear of her passing, and I send love and comfort to her family and friends.

I worked with Libby throughout her residency and her year as one of 3 Chief Residents...the 3 amigos Libby, Karla and Jennifer. I also would go out to the practice she was in and recertify the staff in CPR every 2 years. She was so warm and funny...loved taking care of kids. She was one of my favorite doctors throughout my career at Nationwide Children's. She was a fabulous physician and person. She will be missed.

Dr. Libby was our much loved pediatrician for the last 11 years. She was engaging, fun and thorough with our children. As a parent, she provided confident direction and reassurance when needed. We could not have asked for a more loving professional to take care of our children. We are deeply saddened to hear of her passing and will keep your family close in prayer.

We were so blessed to have your Libby as our children’s doctor for 20 years. Beautiful both inside and out with a jovial personality and loving nature not to be matched! Our sons adored their “Doctor Libby” and whenever an issue arose they knew she’d “fix me up right!”. A brighter smile would be difficult to find...all her patients most certainly felt loved and well cared for!
May you rejoice in the knowledge that Libby is loved by all that were lucky enough to be in her presence!
The sky burns bright with a beautiful new Angel!

Libby was a truly beautiful spirit- she always smiled and was quick to laugh. She was a dedicated physician- I knew her during her residency at Children's, and it was unusual to see such passion and dedication in one so young.
Her family has my sympathy.

Libby was our kids pediatrician when we lived in Columbus. She was fantastic! She and her family also lived in the house behind us. We loved having them as neighbors, and we were sad to say goodbye when we moved to Georgia. She was not only a fantastic doctor, but she was also a fantastic friend to all she met. She accomplished so much in her life both professionally and personnally. The world has lost a great person. We just pray she's at peace now that she doesn't have to fight cancer any longer. We love and miss you Libby!
