Madlynne Kimmerle Obituary
KIMMERLE Madlynne Angelina Kimmerle, 97, of Columbus, died at noon, Feb. 7, 2005, at New York Hospital in New York City. She was born Oct. 17, 1907, in Mattoon, Ill., the fourth of seven children of Luella (Black) and Charles Kinser, a contractor who built many of the significant roads and bridges in the Midwest. She was also a descendent of Thomas W. Kinser who built and occupied the Kinser Mansion in Terre Haute, Indiana. This landmark edifice later became the home of the Knights Of Columbus. It was raised in 1970. After finishing two years of business college, Madlynne Kinser married Wilbert Paul Kimmerle in Terre Haute on Oct. 12, 1928. They moved to Chicago, then relocated in Terre Haute from 1949 through 1957 where she was active in the Otterbein EUB Church, the Terre Haute Bible Center, and the American Red Cross, also volunteering her time singing at local nursing homes and orphanages. In 1958, she moved with her family to Columbus, Ohio, where she continued her church activities and her work with the Red Cross. After her children had grown, she moved to New York City where she became Manager of the Women's Couture Department at fashionable Henri Bendel. She held that post for nearly ten years. In 1972, she retired to her home in German Village here in Columbus. She was a world traveler with a positive, adventurous, and loving spirit, a joy and an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed. Survivors include five children, Robert L. Kimmerle of Hudson, Ohio, John P. Kimmerle of Columbus, Ohio, David K. Kimmerle of Terre Haute, Glenn Thomas Kimmerle of Lexington, Ohio, Mary Ann Kimmerle Landesman of New York City; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One daughter Linda Lou Kimmerle Bassett died in 1993. Funeral service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio, Friday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m., with Pastor Paul Heine officiating. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High Street, Worthington, Ohio. Additional services will be at the Roselawn Memorial Park Chapel, Terre Haute, Indiana, at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. A memorial service at Marble Collegiate Church in New York will be scheduled at a later date.
