Robert Douglas Grant Jr., departed this life on Sunday, May 27, 2018. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 10, 1959. He is predeceased by his parents Claudia (Fleming) Grant, Addie (McCall) and Robert Douglas Grant Sr. Robert was introduced to the wonderful world of the Arts by his aunt Alice Grant, who performed with a multitude of artists such as Pearl Bailey, and Cab Calloway. Robert spent most of his early years as a child actor performing on Broadway in shows such as "Maggie Flynn", "The Me Nobody Knows" on film the "Landlord" and television "The Electric Company" on PBS as well as on episodes of "Good Times" and other series. Following those early years, Robert followed his passion of the arts and graduated from The Ohio State University and attended The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and earned an MFA from the Tyler School of Art (Philadelphia and Rome campus) and spent many years teaching in the New York Public School System. He maintained an art studio and was a long-time member of the artist community at The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center. A portion of Robert's works are featured as part of the permanent collection at The Ohio State University. Robert also followed his other passion for music and was a master on the drums and guitar. He performed most recently with his collaborating partner Debi Ray Chaudhuri as "Brownie Pink" an experimental urban group with urban sounds. Robert was also a member of the Church of Saint Joseph of the Holy Family. Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Eileen Elizabeth Smith Grant; and brothers, Anthony, Timothy (Marti), David (Carolyn), Christopher (Marcia) Grant; and cousin, Kyle Grant Gibson (Jacki); nephews and nieces, Marissa, Nicholas, Joshua, Jacob, Jon David, Julia Grant and Grant, Kyle Jr. and Kylee Gibson; beloved aunt, Alice Grant (Joseph Russell); and aunts, Delores Grant, Elaine Wallace, Jean Wallace; and uncles, William McCall, Dale Jones (Debra), Billy Jones, Lewis Duckett, Lucius Williams; along with a host of wonderful, loving cousins and dear friends. Robert loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a peaceful, gentle soul that was slow to anger but quick to laugh, smile and encourage others. He will be missed by all of those whose lives he touched. Robert leaves behind a unique legacy of love and kindness! In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Church of Saint Joseph of the Holy Family Food Pantry in memory of Robert. Interment will be 1 PM at Woodland Cemetery, 118 Woodland Avenue, Dayton, OH 45409 on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 with a repast to follow in Westerville. HHRoberts.com

I´m watching Good Times and the episode with Robert as Eddie is playing. I decided to see what he´s been up to these days only to have learned he passed away in2018. I thought he looked familiar from the PBS show the electric company. I´m hoping to see some of his art work. He was a true ARTIST in every way. Such a huge loss to the world. My condolences to everyone he touched and to his family. Continue to sleep in peace. Your legacy lives on.

Robert loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a peaceful, gentle person whose quirky wit kept us laughing and him always smiling. He is missed daily and his colleagues speak of him often. Robert´s unique legacy of love and kindness is deeply cherished.

I remember his two appearances on Good Times and his appearance on What's Happening. I am shocked and sorry to learn that he passed away four years ago. I saw a guy who looked exactly like him at the Cheltenham Square Mall in
Wyncote, Pa. back in the nineties on two occasions. My prayers, sympathy, and condolences go out to his family.

Wow some people have said just what i was going to say. just was watching Good Times this am sep. 2, 2022 and saw episode of the "bully" character "Eddie" decided to look him up and see what he was doing these days . surprised to see that he had passed on 4 years ago ( a young man) Condolences to all family members will always remember his performances

I just watched Robert in a scene on Good Times that someone posted on Facebook. He gave such a terrific performance, I wanted to look him up to see what he was doing these days. I'm sorry to read that he passed away. What a remarkable person! I read about his life and his artistic abilities. He passed away far to young. My condolences to his family. I hope to find some of his art online.
