John D. "Jack" Ikert

John Ikert Obituary

John D. "Jack" Ikert, 71, of East Dundee died early Saturday morning at his home surrounded by his family. Jack was born in Elgin on November 15, 1935. He was the son of the late Donald and Aleta (nee Reko) Ikert. Jack was a life long resident of East Dundee and was a 1953 graduate of Dundee Community High School. On May 19, 1956, he married Virginia L. "Jeannie" Erlandsen.

He was a life long and very active member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Dundee where he served his church as a Worship Aid. Jack was also a member of the Men's Club. He was a Plasterer by trade and owned and operated Ikert Plastering in East Dundee for 47 years. He was also a member of the Plasterer's Union Local #5 and was also a long time member of the Dundee Township Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Virginia "Jeannie"; their children, Jane (John) Theis, Jeff Ikert, Jill (Greg) Draper and Jim (Jennifer) Ikert all of East Dundee and Julie (Steve) Bartelt of Huntley; his grandchildren, Kelley (Matt) Mapes, Nick Theis, Campy and Michelle Draper, Jackson Ikert, Rachel, Peyton and Riley Bartelt; a great granddaughter, Eva Mapes; a brother, Daniel (Bonnie) Ikert of Pensacola, FL; his sisters, Elaine (David) Buhrow of East Dundee, Diane (David) Reinert of Elgin, Pamela (David) Bartelt of East Dundee and Sally (Fred) Noverini of Elmwood Park. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Thomas in infancy.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 310 E. Main St. in East Dundee. The Rev. Phillip Baerwolf will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East Cemetery in East Dundee.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 23, 2007 from 3 to 8 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Tuesday in church from 10 AM until time of services. Please omit flowers, memorials may be made to the "Faithfulness Fund" of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
