LUNENBURG -- Henry P. Demers, 74, of 228 White St., died Wednesday, Dec.15, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster, after a long illness.
He was born in Fitchburg on Jan. 2, 1930, the son of J. Philip and Marguerite (Morin) Demers, and lived in this area all of his life. He attended St. Bernard’s High School in Fitchburg.
Mr. Demers, a retired mason, had owned and operated Henry P. Demers & Sons Masonry Co. for 30 years.
He was a member of St. Boniface Parish in Lunenburg, where he served as an usher for many years. He was very active in youth athletics in Lunenburg for many years , was a longtime Little League coach and was the founder of the Lunenburg Hockey Booster Club.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman 1st class.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Celia Sandra (Molter) Demers; five sons, David P. Demers and his wife, Joanne, of Lunenburg, Richard H. Demers and his wife, Maureen, of Fitchburg, Donald W. Demers and his wife, Francesca, of Eliot, Maine, Dana N. Demers and his wife, Sheryl, of Ashburnham, and Darrell J. Demers and his wife, Sharon, of Fitchburg; three sisters, Claire Kelly of Springfield, Theresa Grenier of East Greenwich, R.I., and Janet Mustard of Columbia, S.C.; and nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Francis Demers of Fitchburg.
DEMERS -- On Dec. 15, Henry P. Demers, 74, of Lunenburg. The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec.18, from the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 763 Mass Ave., Lunenburg, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Boniface Church, 817 Mass Ave., Lunenburg. Burial in South Cemetery will take place at a later date. Calling hours at the funeral home are this evening from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or may be left at the funeral home.
