Domenica Chevalier Obituary
- - Age 93, of Dearborn, MI, passed away on April 14, 2021. Domenica was born January 21, 1928, in Detroit, MI, to Giacomo and Constanza (Ferrulli) Romanelli. She graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a bachelor of science in nursing in 1950. On May 20, 1950, she married Larry Chevalier. They raised two sons and three daughters. Domenica had a full and rewarding career in nursing, including hospital nursing, nursing education, and private duty nursing, all while trying to corral the antics of five very diverse and spirited children. During her stay-at-home years, she volunteered for school and extracurricular activities such as homeroom mother and Girl Scouts leader. In her nursing career, she was known for her compassion and dedication to her patients and students. After retirement, she taught herself to use computers and other technical equipment, often acting as informal tech support to her apartment management and friends. She was active in community groups, such as the Dearborn Senior Video Club, and wrote and edited the newsletter for her senior living apartment building. She delivered meals to other seniors for Meals on Wheels. Domenica was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Chevalier, and brother, Pasquale Romanelli. She is survived by her five children, John Chevalier, Nancy Guido (Mike), Patricia OHara (Larry), Susan Chevalier, and James Chevalier (Caryn), as well as 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Rose Ordonez, her brother, Frank Romanelli, her sisters-in-law Genevieve Jason and Glorya Chevalier, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Donations may be sent to Crossroads of Michigan, University of Michigan School of Nursing, or Detroit Public Television. A.J. Desmond & Sons, 248-362-2500.
