Billy Joye Obituary
A native of Belmont, he was the son of the late John Henry Joye Jr. and Emma Alexander Joye.
Billy was a WWII Army Air Corp Veteran, serving in the Pacific Campaign. He retired from the Belmont Police Department after 31 years and served as the Chief for the last ten years of his career. He was the oldest member of Holy Comforter Lutheran Church. Billy was an avid gardener, growing the best tomatoes in Belmont. He was also a devout lifelong New York Yankees fan.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 2 p.m. Wed. at Holy Comforter Lutheran Church with Reverend Micah Kearney officiating.
The Belmont Police Department will serve as pallbearers.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Joye is survived by his son, Billy Joye. Jr. and wife. Libby of Belmont; grandchildren, Cindee Joye of Belmont, Wendy Faulkner and husband, Mike of New Hampshire, Shari Roberts and husband Scott of Gastonia; great grandchildren, Chloe and Josephine Roberts; brother, James B. "Red" Joye and wife, Edna of Belmont; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Sarah Pauline Bess Joye; sisters, Nellie Pennell, Ethel Hansil, Elizabeth Joye; brothers,
Willard, Charles, Neal, Aubrey, and Bobby Joye.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Comforter Lutheran Church, 216 N. Main St., Belmont, NC 28012.

Billy, I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Many memories of riding my bike up to the store for a pop cycle. It is hard to turn loose but we know he is now with many of the South Point folks we grew up with. I know he is having a good time. No pain now.
