...Praise him with clanging cymbals; praise him with loud crashing cymbals! Psalm 150, verse 5. From high school to adulthood, each time I saw him, Mike was always smiling; he was so warm and friendly to everyone. My thoughts and prayers go to Mike's children, family and friends. He shall be missed.

mike i wish i could have been there to say goodbye in person. I know that you had plenty of people around to do that for me. your kindness and friendship meant alot to me and many people. i cannot begin to say how many drumming tricks i learned from you. don't even want to say how i learned that you were lactose intolerant. lets just say that was a long ride home in your truck( ha ha ha ). i wish i could say that i played in the same band as you but we were both drummers, kinda hard. it meant alot to me when you'd come see us play and sit in on my kit though. to doris, brittney and brandon.... you have my deepest sympathies and my prayers. to all his friends stay strong and remember the goofy, funny, sympathetic, caring and all around great guy that he was.

I knew Mike from Graner Music as we we're both teaching lessons. I taught guitar.
I would run into Mike and always enjoyed talking with him. It wasn't until he opened up his drum shop that, I saw more of him because my son, was taking drums lessons there.
I would call him "Brother Mike" and, he would call me,"Brother ZOO."
He would just light up and chuckle everytime he said that.
I saw Mike over at the new location when Johny Barbata was doing his book signing. Mike was like a proud father showing me the store and, you could tell that he was very happy with the new location.
I never heard an unkind word from Mike about anything or anyone. Mike had a great heart and was truly one of the best people I have ever had the opportunity to know.
Mike was living out his dreams, playing drums and, owning a great drum shop.
I will miss our conversations and his great heart and smile.
I sure hope we can all make Mike's dreams continue on, it would be good for all of us.
My condolences to Mike's family and loved ones.

I will always remember Mike as a happy and vibrant guy. It is truly a shame that he was taken from us so early.
He was a talented drummer and a good man.
His music and memory will live on.

Mike has been a great life-long friend.
As many here have written Mike was uniquely genuine and kind, unusually 'big hearted.'
His passing is a great loss for all of us but none moreso that his mom and kids.
Doris, Brittney and Brandon, words can't describe how my heart is torn for you. I am so, so sorry.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I won't ever forget the chill that went down my back when my daughter told me, " Hey did you know the guy who owned Pitt's drum shop died". She plays in the drum line at Wasson and heard it from another drummer. Of course she obviously did not know how close we were, or that you made my dream come true by helping me to buy my dream Tama Kit, w/ Octobons. You always made it as comfortable as possible financially and I was always wanting to make sure and give you my business so as to keep the shop around. I love you Mike. You have definately brightened my life. I will always play with you in my heart, every stroke, every kick, and every crash. You will be terribly missed. I wish I could have been as good a friend to you as you were to me. I ask The Lord God of Host and God of Armies, and The Lord Jesus Christ, that you be remembered on His day of judgment. That He have mercy on you and grace which have especially showed to all you came in contact with, includiong myself. God Speed

I only had the pleasure of meeting Michael in person once at his new Drum shop. But immediately I could tell he was a man who loved life and loved the drums and those of us who played them. He made me feel like family the second I walked into his drum shop. I was looking forward to being around him and his energy when I started taking lessons at his shop next Thursday. Long story short Michael was an inspiration to alot of new drummers like myself, and I pray that his legacy will live on. My sincerest condolences to his family. Pitt, you will be missed...God Bless.

I used to live in Colorado Springs, and knew Mike through Lisa, who shared retail space with him.
Every time I came into Lisa's shop, Mike always had a big smile and said "Hi." He was such a nice guy.
I watched and listened to Mike play with Distant Warning a few times, and I know he was an inspiration to both pro-drummers and students alike. He will be greatly missed.
To Mike's family: Many thoughts are with you in this time of sadness. I like the idea someone else expressed here: "Mike is rockin in a new world."

Mike was a joyful man. When he opened the shop, I bought a pair of sticks. Mike said the special that day was a bear hug for everyone who buys sticks. I'll never forget your smile, your laugh, your handshake, kind words, my friend. You are loved, and you'll be missed.

Mike was the type of person with whom one felt an immediate connection. My son bought his first drum set from Pitt's last year. Mike was so kind, so generous, and so genuine, that we stopped in to visit him often, even when we weren't shopping. I bragged about him so much to my husband that he made a point of stopping in to thank him for his kindness. He stopped in several times after that just to say hi. Mike drew people to him, and stressed to teens the importance of clean living. The shop just moved closer to our home and we intended to stop by Saturday, August 25 to say hi and congratulate him. Household chores and homework prevented that.
We use to hold Mike up in prayer and we now are holding his hurting loved ones up to the Lord. We talked to Mike about "things of the Lord" and about Christian Music, as my son likes to play with Newsboys, Toby Mac, etc. We were deeply saddened by the news-deeply saddened. I am glad that we met him-A really good person.

To Mike's family,
I am very sorry for your loss. I knew Mike in Junior High and High school -- gosh, haven't seen him for almost 30 years, but I never forgot him, he was a really good guy and I was shocked and saddened to read of his passing in the newspaper. I pray that he is in the arms of The Savior, and I pray for strength and comfort for his family and loved ones.

I met Mike several years ago when he worked the drum department over at Prosound. Both being drummers, we hit it off immediately. . .but it was Mike's kind and 'easy going' spirit that really struck me. Since we were both part of the musical community for many years, I got to see Mike quite often. Our paths crossed for the last time back in June when I saw mike at Independent Records. He was telling me all about his new band 'Hellstrum' and his drum shop. We made plans to have lunch one day over at the shop but unfortunately, it was never meant to be. To Mike: You will be whole-heartedly missed brother. . .but I know you went out the way you wanted to. . .playing the drums loud and hard. . .God Speed! To Mike's family: Please know that Mike's kind spirit and passion for music has only enriched the lives of those who knew him. In your time of sadness, please know we all support you!
