Eleanor Bayer Obituary

BAYER, Eleanor (Cherniak), Z"L Eleanor C. Bayer, Z"L, 76, of Old Lyme and Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Newington passed away Friday, (September 1, 2006) at her Old Colony Beach home with her family by her side. The beloved wife of Milton B. Bayer for 53 years, Mrs. Bayer was born and raised in New Britain. A daughter of the late David and Lena (Burres) Cherniak, she graduated New Britain High School and attended University of Connecticut, graduating Teachers' College of Connecticut. She taught in New Britain Public Schools. Mrs. Bayer was a founding member of Temple Beth Torah, Wethersfield, and a longtime active member of Congregation B'Nai Sholom, Newington as well as a life member of Hadassah. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bayer leaves their five children, Nancy Bayer and Laura Gurak of Arden Hills, MN, Richard Bayer and Melinda Williams of Greenfield, MA, Laurie Bayer of Putney, VT, Debra and Lewis Cohen of West Hartford, Joan and Alan Lipsyc of Beachwood, OH, and seven grandchildren, Erin Bayer, Sarah and Emily Emmons, Marla and Lauren Lipsyc, Deena and David Cohen. Funeral services will be held on TODAY, at 2 p.m. at Congregation B'Nai Sholom, 26 Church St., Newington, with Rabbi Debra Cantor, Rabbi Steven Silberman and Cantor Howard Glantz officiating. Interment at Beth Olam Cemetery, New Britain. Shiva will be observed with morning and evening minyans at the home of Lewis and Debra Cohen, West Hartford, following the funeral through Friday noon. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Middlesex Hospital Hospice Homecare for their support and kindness during Ellie's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jewish Children's Service Organization, P.O. Box 370386, West Hartford, CT 06137-0386, or to Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center, 401 North Broadway, Weinberg 2242, Baltimore, MD 21231-2410. Arrangements provided by Hebrew Funeral Association, West Hartford. May her memory be for a blessing.
