To Professor Scanlon ~ I recently attended the 50th HCW Class Reunion/90th Anniversay of HCW, and of course, thought and spoke of you with great affection. You made an indelible mark on my being, and I deeply admire and appreciate the way you opened up my thinking, my way of looking at the world. You were a once-in-a-lifetime teacher for me, and I will always treasure the memories. ~~~ Maureen

I have often thought about you Larry and Anne. You were the most amazing man I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I have so many fond memories of your visits to my Mam's bed and breakfast in Dublin Ireland, and of course the adventures you brought myself and my sister Rachel on all around Ireland. I am truely sorry for not keeping in touch. Myself and my family still talk about you and all the funny stories we shared. Im sure you are truely missed. You will always be in my thoughts Larry. Lots of love to your family and friends xxx

To the Scanlon Family,
I was saddened to read of the passing of Professor Scanlon, my favorite at HCW ('70-'73). I took his notorious Eng Comp class my first semester & loved his teaching style so much, I re-upped for his American Lit course. He taught me to write, and he taught me to think outside the cliche. I looked forward to his voluminous typed comments at the end of a writing assignment, however painful they might be! I own a cherished copy of First Came Commodore Perry. He and Mrs. Newlands will always be a part of my nostalgia for my HCW days. The last time I saw him was at the memorial service for Mrs. Newlands (1994?) My condolences to you all.

Anne, I last saw you and Larry in 1970 in your Conn home. I beg forgiveness for not having contacted you in the interim. Our life has been full of difficulties. I retired in 1997. Erin is 73 and I 83, with a birthday on Jan 18, two days before the inauguration. Accept my deepest sympathies on your loss. Mordecai Marcus [email protected]

While perusing the newspaper,as I always do, Prof. Scanlon's named popped out at me. I was a student at Hartford College for Women, graduating in 1977, and Prof. Scanlon was my favorite professor. He instilled in me a love of the written word as well as an appreciation of the classics! He gave a lot to many! My thoughts and prayers are with his family this day.
